Toronto – Historian Professor Lapiso Gedelebo passed away at the age of 87.
He reportedly died of a brief illness. No immediate information was available on the nature of the illness. Details of the funeral arrangement are undisclosed at the time of this writing.
He has produced works on Ethiopian history of all periods.
His work has been divisive. While there are sentiments that his writing was inspired by ethnic nationalism, his works are hailed by radical ethnic nationalists, particularly ethnic Oromos.
Prime Minister Abiy wrote condolences on his social media page saying : “I heard with great sadness that the veteran historian, Professor Lapiso G. Delebo, passed away today after a period of medical care. I wish for his soul to be placed in the Garden of Heaven and for comfort to be given to his family and friends.”
Major Ethiopian government offices and financial institutions had been sharing messages of condolences on social media.
