Former Ethiopian Defense Chief Of Staff Says “Fighting Is Over; They Need To Surrender”

Borkena Desk

TORONTO, Candida – Former Ethiopian Defense Chief of Staff, General Samora Yenus, says the fighting in the Northern Ethiopia is over and that “they [the TPLF leaders]” need to surrender.

He remarked so in an interview with NBC Ethiopia that is said to be the ruling Prosperity Party affiliated media outlet based in the capital Addis Ababa.

General Samora who was himself one of the top TPLF leaders and known for his stated political conviction that “there is no difference between the people of Tigray and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. They are one and the same,” now says the people in the region did not support the war. He believes “there is no such thing as TPLF at this point. It is a collection of criminals that was causing instability in the region.”

He attributed the outcome of the latest escalation in the region, which prompted what the TPLF described as “strategic retreat” leaving Mekelle for the Ethiopian Defense Force without a significant battle, to the “level of preparedness of the Ethiopian Defense Force.”

He said he is “happy that it [the fighting] was quick.” It mitigates loss of human lives and other losses.  The latest escalation started over a week ago.
