Toronto – The Amhara Fano forces under AFNF on Thursday reported a military gain in South Wollo.
From what Fano forces shared on social media, government forces from Tenta and Delanta areas of Wollo were heading to Dessie via Tere when the Fano forces ambushed them in the same locality.
It is indicated that it was Yedegaw Mebrek Corps of Menelik Command in the East Amhara zone that was in charge of this mission. It is the public relation unit of this corps that made the claims about the military gain.
However, the statement did not specify any causality from the operation except saying that government forces from two locations cited above were in disarray following the attacks.
The Ethiopian Defense Force did not remark on it at the time of this writing, And Fano’s claims in this location were not independently verified.
In a related development, Fano forces in the Gojjam area are also claiming a military victory. A brief release said government forces were making moves from two directions: armed forces including a mechanized unit.
The purpose of his move is not indicated but fano said one group from Debre Elias moved to Chertekel. The other one was heading from Debre Markos to Libanos Kebele.
Fano forces claim that they cut off the one that moved from Debre Markos and inflicted “heavy loss” – and the remaining unit was forced to retreat back. The 14th division Berehegnaw Jibela Shaleka forces is credited with the operation.
Again, the claim is not independently verified. The defense force did not remark on Fano’s claim in Gojjam.
What the government started as a “two weeks military operation” in August 2023 turned out to be a major war affecting most parts of the Amhara region. Nearly, after two and half years, there is no indication if it is ending soon.
