Toronto – Ethiopia’s Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) on Tuesday announced that it has arrested 82 suspects linked to ISIS.

In a statement sent to state owned media outlets,  NISS claims that those arrested were recruits for a terrorist mission in Ethiopia.

They are from the Somalia wing of ISIS, NISS claimed.  There has been a counter terrorist operation focusing on the group, which is allegedly operating in  Puntland, which intends to expand to other countries including Ethiopia.

What NISS is claiming is that the terrorist group has been training the suspects in Puntland and deployed 82 suspects to different parts of Ethiopia. The arrest was made in a joint operation by the Federal police and regional security bodies.  It is also highlighted that community members in different parts of the country cooperated with security forces in the operation.

The  alleged suspects were arrested from towns in the Oromia region of Ethiopia namely Sheggar, Adama, Haramaya, Shashemene, Bale, Jimma and Shakiso. however, there were also arrests from Kemise Oromo zone of the Amhara region, from Silte zone in central Ethiopia, Halaba Kulito. In south eastern parts of Ethiopia, there were arrests in Jigjiga and Harari.

NISS unspecified the  other countries where the group has been attempting to expand and deploy its operatives.

The disclosure via the state-owned media, Fana Broadcasting, also made claims that NISS has been monitoring the plot from the initial stage.

As well, NISS claimed that it has identified tangible findings related to vulnerability and national security risk from its regular assessments.

Among the suspects are, it was said,  the “information wing of the terrorist group, and those who have been supporting the group financially.”  They were said to have direct contact with the terrorist group.

Another serious allegation that NISS made is that “religious institutions and religion were used as a cover to broaden the terrorist mission and undertake recruitment.”

There have been what the government described as activities that undermine unity of the people and values of mutual respect as well as activities that incite for “riot and violence.”

NISS indicated that an operation and follow up  is still underway to arrest members of the group who are still at large

  1. Too bad I myself saw these kind of Somalis who were indoctrinated. We have to watch them closely to be safe or we will be sorry

  2. Good job NISS! These Wahhabi offshoots have tried to find home in the old country for decades but have so far failed miserably. The country does not offer fertile environment for their twisted creed. The two major religions have lived side in harmony with tolerance for each other since the beginning. It is not only in America where you find a coupe with one of them a Muslim and the other one a Christian. Our old country has tolerated the intermarrying of the two religions for centuries. What was the last name of the mother of the late Emperor? For all we know Ali is not a Navajo or a Hindu name.

But the current or future leaders of that country should not be relying solely on our history to let their guard down on these Lucifers. The latest information indicates that most of the field commanders of this demonic group now hiding in the mountains of Puntland are former illegal immigrants from Ethiopia. They were stranded in that autonomous region for years with nowhere to go due to lack of monetary funds to take them across Bab-El-Man-dab. Inside the country itself, there are tens of millions of chronically unemployed and hapless young people ready to go either way as cannon fodder. Just look at what is going on in Amhara, Oromia and Tigray regions. The youth there is offering itself and including its Allah created life to whoever is providing employment. Today it is Fano, TDF or OLA. Tomorrow it can be ISIS and The Lord’s Resistance Army. Who thought at the beginning of 1974 the chaos that engulfed that country was leading to the Red Terror that was just ahead of the curve where more than 500,000 cream puff of the crop of that country were mercilessly butchered? So the danger is real.
