Toronto – In the latest string of inhuman violations in the Amhara region, Ethiopian government soldiers this week have reportedly executed civilians in Dega Damot area – one of the places in the region where there has been intense fighting for several days.
Apart from executions, there were reported drone strikes in the area.
Ethiopia Media Service (EMS) reported as many as 200 casualties including women and children. Borkena could not verify the story from other sources.
Fano Yohannes Alemayehu , spokesperson of Gojjam Fano, told EMS confirming the story.
Earlier in the week, The Amhara Association of America reported that at least six civilians were killed in Dega Damot in separate incidents.
Human rights organizations in the country or abroad have not released a statement on the latest executions in the Amhara region.
There has been a precedent of civilian executions happening following severe battle losses by government soldiers.
Fano forces were reporting significant gains in their latest engagement against government forces. The latest confirmed major gains for Fano forces in Gojjam was the battle in Sekela where a senior Defense Force commander was captured along with more than 40 soldiers. Dozens were killed and Fano forces claimed that they seized over hundred light weapons and about 4 dshk. As well, Fano forces seized over 31 million birr.
It was about ten or so days ago that the government declared what it called “final campaign” against Fano and deployed about 40,000 additional troops, according to sources. Government supporters and the Defense Force itself have been claiming victories.
Meanwhile, citizen reports on social media say Fano forces in the North Wollo area have captured Woldia, seat of the zone administration.
