Toronto – Ethiopian Prime Minister has been undertaking a subtle campaign for several years now.
Obviously the goal has been painting a winning image of his political personality and the party he is leading by projecting that “Prosperity” – also the name of the party he established six years ago – is within reach.
However, he has never been to a critical media outlet or mainstream media other than one that is state-owned. There was an exception this year. He appeared on Kana TV – an entertainment outlet which is widely criticized for allegedly diluting the Ethiopian culture.
Recently he has been talking about AI – nearly at an obsession level. He even made a move to establish “Africa’s AI University.”
On the ground, disenchantment and frustration has been on the rise about his personal and his party’s leadership style. The cost of living is said to be completely out of control for many millions of Ethiopians. The World Bank last week reported that Ethiopian Birr is the weakest in Sub-saharan Africa.
His government is responding to it by mounting a crackdown, including on journalists and opposition parties, in an apparent attempt to stifle outbreak of popular revolt in the capital Addis Ababa and elsewhere.
At the same time, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed continues his strategic campaign ahead of the national election which is scheduled for June this year.
In an interview that the state-owned media aired on Tuesday, he discusses his “medemer” thought and the manufacturing sector. What is your reaction to his claims? Share it in the comment section.

One common attributes of all rulers of the old country since the late Emperor is all of them claim to be theoreticians. The moon calf and human bloodthirsty Mengistu had crowned himself to be the ‘Center’ of theories. The one that followed him was said to possess a steel trap brain of every researched papers that he concocted what he called ‘Developmental Democracy’ leaving everyone confused and disoriented. You better not take the ‘democracy’ in his theory at its face value and go into the streets to peacefully demonstrate. If you do that, his lieutenants will have their tested sharp shooters waiting for you at high rise building with your head in their crossfire. This one has even come up with a theory(philosophy) built on what is termed ‘synchronicity’ and everyone seems to be confused by it. My understanding is some people can be in the ‘synchronicity’ and some may be not. And you better not be the confused. But in light of the confusion, I still believe this regime is at the country’s crossroads. It must be sorted out peacefully. This is it and the last chance for that gem of the colored and its more than 130 million upright and noble. Violence will only lead to unseen abyss where the entire 130+ million people will be on the move. That is because there is no group in the opposition as of now that is strong enough to pick up the baton. Then you may kiss and say good bye to that gem of the colored. Btw, his northerly neighbor even has a more elaborate theory that encompasses the entire globe he calls ‘Uni/Multi-polar’ world order he panhandled/pilfered from others.
