Toronto – It is like Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has created a district identity leadership when it comes to giving interviews to media outlets. Perhaps for a reason given the multitude of tough questions he could be facing on a range of issues. Devastating wars ongoing in the Amhara and Oromia regions of Ethiopia.
There is speculation from informed politicians from the Tigray region of Ethiopia that another one could break out in the region – very likely involving Eritrea too. The Economy is said to be in crisis despite narratives of growth from monetary institutions like the IMF. The Ethiopian birr lost over 100 percent of its value against the U.S. dollars in less than 10 months.
The security crisis in many regions is not showing signs of significant improvement. It is one that makes a simple trip from Addis Ababa to Bishoftu (Debre Zeit) appear like an adventure.
Finally, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is testing the water by appearing on state-owned media outlets like Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation. Of course, it is presumed that he is addressing questions submitted to his office ahead of time. “what does Ethiopiawint means for you?” is the kind of questions he is facing from the state media outlets. His social affairs advisor, Daniel Kibret, had tried hard to convince Ethiopians painting an image of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in tears when thinking about “Ethipiopiawint” (could translate to Ethiopanness / Ethiopianism). It was needed as people no longer considered him as a politician working on Ethiopian Affairs. In fact, the president from Neighbouring Eritrea insinuated last week during his 34th Eritrean independence speech that he is leading a proxy government.
