Toronto – “We have been hearing accusations that Ethiopia is going to start a war with Eritrea,” said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during his latest parliamentary appearance on Thursday. His statement came in response to widespread speculation that war could break out between the two countries at any moment, a topic that has dominated headlines in many media outlets over the past few weeks.
Eritrea briefed the diplomatic community on Tuesday, accusing Ethiopia of intending to violate its sovereignty. It called on the international community to pressure Ethiopia to respect “the sovereignty of its neighbors.”
Abiy dismissed possible war with Eritrea. “What I would like to assure the respected council [parliament], the Ethiopian people, as well as the Eritrean people and government, is that Ethiopia has no interest in invading Eritrea for the sake of the Red Sea,” he said.
He went on to state that Ethiopia’s “interest is in talks based on the principle of reciprocity, benefiting the people, and market principles.”
Abiy argued that there is a 5,000-kilometer coastline in the Horn of Africa, which he said is enough for everyone in the region without consideration to the notion of sovereignty. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual benefit, rather than conflict, to address the issue.
“The issue of the Red Sea for Ethiopia is a matter of existence. Whether the Prosperity Party [his party] is here or not, whether this council [the parliament] is here or not, 130 million people whose economy is growing with the aspiration to escape poverty cannot be locked in a prison,” he added.
Ethiopia is just 40 kilometers from the Red Sea in the Afar region. For more than three decades, there has been resentment in Ethiopia over the belief that the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi ceded Ethiopia’s port of Assab to Eritrea. Eritrea, however, considers Assab an integral part of its territory.
“We call upon the world: if there is any individual, group, or country capable of mediating between us and our brothers for an amicable solution…” Abiy stated in parliament.
Abiy also declared that his government “does not have a concern that anyone will invade Ethiopia and stop us from our vision. Because the response will be severe, and there is enough preparation for that.”
Fears have been high that the Ethiopian government could start a war, especially amid reports of military mobilizations on both sides.
“I assure you that there will be no provocation from our side. If there is provocation from the other side, the response will be severe,” Abiy Ahmed told members of parliament.

I agree with the Ethiopia PM here, what is 20 to 50 km out of a 5000 km coastline from our dear neighbor ( former country men ) Eretria?
Win win, collaboration is what Ethiopia is proposing, and I think it is not only fair, it is beneficial for both nations economic development as well as security integration; together we can prosper as well as guarantee the security & wellbeing of our future generations.
I think ‘the ball’ is in the Eritreans corner, they need to respond in good faith and make this important revelation from the Ethiopia side, for need for dialogue & cooperation to bring about substantial benefits to both our peoples as a starting point to open a new page in the future cooperation between the two nations.
“Small men make war, big men make peace”,
Victor Orban
Let peace and cooperation be the guiding light for our friendship from this day forward!!!
Let the next generations of Eritreans & Ethiopians live together in peace as good neighbors do, better than what the last and current generations our peoples experienced in the last few decades…
Be well.
There are nations that have more ethnic counts than our Ethiopia, such as Russia 100+, India 100+, US 200+… but we are so fixated on it and ignoring anything else, the way it is going ( as we allow it to go on),it is destroying the social fabric of the nation.
We all read how languages were created during the time of Babylon… There is some evidence in the bible itself, that before the need for language arose, people were telepathic say in the time of Atlantis civilization. There is an understanding that humanity’s future involves heading back to telepathic communication…( as we move to higher dimensions, as others before us have gone through billions of years earlier.) Meaning, we are STUCK, fighting on something that didn’t exist ‘before’ & won’t exist at some point in humanity’s future.
In the meantime the rest of the world is moving on to BACK to the FUTURE, a small step at a time.. leaving the rest of us behind (WARP speed) as we argue & fight just about what comes to mind.
I remember reading a novel written about the 1960’s Detroit ( the car capital of the world) ( motor city)… until the Japanese cars came along…
Today I just watched a video that reminded me of the old story of Detroit and its current reality… and immediately thought of DT’s MAGA and its attempt to recreate the past glory while the world is moving away in a multitude of sectors of development with speed that was not there before. To put it in perspective, the western industrialization that took 600 years has been taken over by China in only 40 years, wrap your head around that.
This video’s description of today’s Chinese industry developments gives you the vision of Detroit coming to the rest of the ‘developed world’ faster than anyone anticipated…Add AI to this picture, the advancement in the next 10 years alone would lap the past technological advancements thousands of times; putting advancements in all ventures on-steroid.

Food for thought, in regards to ELF in the 1960’s. Syria’s Hafez al-Assad was one of the major supporters of ELF, look where Syria is today!
“Your life is your making”= Karma = Energy balancing.
Meaning what you throw out ( ‘energy’ (‘good or bad’), everything in creation is the SAME energy in one ‘form’ or another) has to go somewhere, that somewhere is only you, due to the similarity of vibrational frequency (as water does not mix with oil).
Be well.
The reality is that the government of Abiy Ahmed does not have the military strength to start war with Eritrea. The rhetoric of war coming from his circles is a diversionary attempt to maintain his power. Many in his circles believe that raising the issue of Assab port will divide the anti government Amhara forces because the issue of port has been very important in the Amhara elites. During the war with Eritrea in 1998-2000 the EPRDF government mobilized the Amhara people by creating the false hope of capturing the port of Assab. In the aftermath of the war the Amhara elites felt deceived and accused the EPRDF of treason.
You and your miscalculations, please learn from TPLF, miscalculation will only hurt you. Tekesralehhh
The fact is Ethiopia has never had a strong military like the one we have right now, 1000% my man you need to upgrade your information source, Ethiopia has built one of the strongest militaries out there while fighting idiots like you across the country. Ethiopia is also not looking for conventional wars like we did in the past. you will be surprised…. she will surprise you; Eritrea and Ethiopia should never be compared, it is what it is after Ato Meles Zenawi made us lose for him to claim red sea after Article 39 applied to come up with brand new country Called Tigray, fast forward people in Tigray have regrated what they have tried and now paying price… Embur Embur atbel
PM Abiy and Ethiopians are scared of Al-Toweel Isu and his military after they found out that his Airforce has the fastest fighter/bomber in the world. It is called Al-Nakfa 75 with a speed at Mach 7 cruising which means it can hit targets in Addis/Finfinne in mere 35 seconds from its base in Piccola Roma. It is also wrapped in stealth technology leaving no traces of heat. Isu’s army also has 1,520 fastest tanks in the world armored with impenetrable body cruising at a blinding speed of 250 mph in rough terrains. Abiy and the entire 130 million people of Ethiopia are so scared that they are begging the Arab League, EU and Bugs Bunny to convince Wedi Afo not invade Ethiopia. I got the picture of the entire 130 million of them down at the feet of Isu begging him and crying for mercy. My longtime homeboy Yemane shot me an email this morning with the photo.
A Psychopath’s daydream!!!
Aba Farda, fellow patients pity each other.
I told you! I told you a million times and you never believed me. I’m on the phone with my longtime homeboy Yemane from Abruzzi. He is calling me from his new office in Arat Kilo. He told me it too a mere 6 hours to overrun those inept and coward soldiers of Ethiopia. He told me the remuneration of the 250 billion in US dollars Ethiopia owes his country has begun. That was for invading Abruzzi at Adwa in 1896 at Keren in 1941, at Piccola Roma in 1952, 1962 and 1998 where more than 7 million Abruzzis were killed. Ethiopia! You’re toast! Gone and good bye!!!! Wedi Afo is now your master in the field until your debt is paid in full and with interest at 85% APR which will take more than 50 years.
Sea Access: Miles of the Affar Red Sea coast is a legitimate Ethiopian land! So, Ethiopia must address this issue head-on without ifs & buts. No backing down! No sugar coating!
Affar Autonomous Region [AAR]: The Affar Red Sea Coast [ARSC] became the AAR during the Derg Era [1974-1991]. The same went for Eritrea, Gambella [Illubabor], etc.
Asèb: The ARSC was part of Wollo under the Monarchy. Asèb was the Affars’ port town with Ethiopia’s refinery. It was never part of Bahirè-Nègash [renamed ‘Eritrea’ by Italy].
Invasion/Occupation/Annexation: The Egypt-funded anti-Ethiopia Secessionists [TPLF & EPLF] invaded-and-occupied Ethiopia in 1991. Then, they redrew Ethiopia’s map*; rewrote Ethiopia’s history; co-looted Ethiopia till 1998; predictably went at each other’s throats over the lion’s share of the loot and finally triggered the 1998 Ethio-Eritrea war.
*Redrew Ethiopia’s Map:
(1). Eritrea annexed ARSC and claimed parts of Gonder, Tigray, etc.
(2). Tigray annexed Wolkait/Tegede/Humera/Tselemt/Raya/etc. and parts of Affar.
