Toronto – Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council on Sunday denounced the massacre of 21 Ethiopian Orthodox Christians in Sherka district of East Arsi Zone, Oromia regional state of Ethiopia. 

The council called the incident an “accident.” 

“We are very saddened by the horrifying accident on our innocent compatriots of Orthodox Christian religion followers,” it said. 

The council’s position is that the “action does not represent any religion” and is intended to create suspicion and conflict by eroding the age-old values of respect. 

It called on the government to “identify the perpetrators urgently” and take action. . 

As well, the council expressed condolence to the families of the victims. 

There has been a recurring massacre of Ethiopian Orthodox Followers in Arsi over the past few years.
