Toronto – The Ethiopian government is reportedly suspending a residential Property of Lidetu Ayalew, an opposition politician who is currently in the United States.
He was the cofounder and leader of Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP).
Police claim that he, along with two other figures, are suspects in “terrorist acts.” The nature of the terrorist act is unspecified.
Lidetu regularly appears on various Ethiopian news outlets in the Diaspora oftentimes with highly critical political remarks against Abiy Ahmed’s administration..
A letter purportedly from the crime investigation department of the Federal police, which is circulating on social media, also listed Habtamu Ayalew and Zemedkun Beleke, who live in the United States and Germany respectively, in the request to suspend property. They run a media on Youtube and are known to be critical of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.

The residential homes are in the capital Addis Ababa.
In February 2025, Lidetu was denied boarding an Ethiopian Airlines flight in Atlanta as he was trying to return to Ethiopia after a long stay in the U.S. for medical reasons.

What do you mean by gov “suspends?”
It means they lose the right of property by the government that means they can’t move or use their own property.
I have been very curious about this since I saw it for the first time. Is the countryman on the right Obbo Zemedkun Bekele in any way related to the actor Ice-T? They starkly look alike. You never know. One of them could be by the other wife. Don’t forget Wolf, Herb and many others.
Just curious about this doppelganger situation.
