This is the second for the Ethiopian government to arrest journalists in the capital Addis Ababa in less than a month

Borkena
Toronto – The Ethiopian government on Thursday arrested two Sheger F.M. 102.1 journalists.
Borkena reporter based in Addis Ababa spoke to an employee of the Station on the phone, who spoke on condition of anonymity, has confirmed the story.
Based on the source government security forces have arrested Tigist Zerihun and Mintamir Tsegaw.
What is known at this point is that the journalists are arrested over coverage related to the Ethiopian Health Professionals Association.
Borkena’s reporter learned from the source that the journalists were arrested over a reported second round of protest health professionals are planning to undertake. The story aired on August 29. Tigist and Mintamir were scheduled to work on the day.
No further detail was provided regarding the circumstances under which they were arrested and/or if they were visited by family members.
However, other local news sources reported that the two journalists were arrested at the criminal investigation division of the Federal police. Sheger F.M. 102 is one of the most popular news outlets in the country.
Journalistic work appears to be transforming into an even more risky undertaking in Ethiopia.
About three weeks ago, the Ethiopian government abducted two journalists ( Yonas Amare and Abdulsemed Mohammed) from the capital Addis Ababa. They were released after 12 days without a trace or appearing before court.
They were released on August 23. To date, the public, probably their employers too, is unaware as to what transpired during detention in undisclosed locations.
