Toronto – 82 Ethiopian Enterprises have reportedly halted operation. However, Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) does seem to paint a picture that it has been working to support their operation.
For the enterprise, those who stopped operation had problems related to input supply and financial problems.
Robel Ahmed, communication head of EED, is cited as saying many of them have electrical and raw material supply.
And the enterprise said that it is working with Ethiopian Electric power to resolve electric power supply.
As well, Robel says there is an arrangement in place for “Lease finance or machinery supply” for the enterprises many of them are said to be medium to small. Offices have been established at regional government level to support the enterprises.
He has also indicated that the institution is working on lease financing legislation.
Furthermore, Robel stated that organizations were created locally to overcome raw material supply, in coordination with selected international entities. Over 2300 enterprises were assisted with raw material supply within the last six months, he added.
63 enterprises have reportedly exported their products.
The Ethiopian government has been recently projecting a narrative that it is working to support the manufacturing sector. Recently, it inaugurated an agro-processing plant in the Oroma region.
Ethiopia had been investing extensively in Industrial parks for several years. Although the government was able to attract some foreign investors, there has been a report recently that a growing number of them left for reasons ranging from energy supply to government bureaucracy.
