Toronto – Ethiopian Athlete Diribe Wolteji is reportedly not allowed to compete from the 20th World Track Championship which is taking place in Tokyo, Japan.
The decision came just before her first race at the competition.
According to ESPN, the decision is over an allegedly missing scheduled test for doping. The allegation is that she “refused to take a doping test in May this year.”
The Ethiopian Athletics Federation is rejecting the claim from The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). Dr. Ayalew Tilahun, a senior doctor of team Ethiopia at the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, says the federation, which is a member of the World Athletics Federation, investigated the matter and absolved her from the allegation.

However, The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of the International Athletics Federation chose to raise the matter again when she was about to start her 1500 race in Tokyo.
Dr. Ayalew Tilahun says that she was included in the team after the Federation investigated her and found out that the allegation was incorrect. The Federation would not have included her if it did not have the conviction that she is free from doping.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has appealed the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Dr. Ayalew says the issue has caused a great sense of regret in the Ethiopian team. The Federation was expecting a favourable result (gold or silver medal) from Wolteji in her 1500 meters race. She is currently the world’s number 2 in the distance.
