Toronto – Ethiopian Airlines on Tuesday announced that it has signed a lease agreement with AerCap Holdings. It said the agreement is for two Boeing 777-300 ERSF converted freighters.
“The aircraft will be the first of its type to operate in Africa, with the deliveries scheduled for Q2 2028,” the Airlines said.
Ethiopian did not specify the length of the lease or its spending.
The Airlines retourted several of its converted cargo planes following cancellations of hundreds of weekly flights to the Middle East due to the conflict.
The airline was estimating about $137 million weekly loss as a result of the flight cancellations.
The newly leased Boeing freighters are expected to enhance Ethiopian cargo routes.

Ethiopian Airlines is said to be the first to operate the aircraft. Chief Executive Officer of AerCap,Aengus Kelly, who expressed delight on the partnership, on his part said “…the 777-300ERSF delivers significant cost efficiencies and will position Ethiopian Airlines to further expand its growing cargo platform. We are proud to support Ethiopian Airlines and wish them continued success as they scale and strengthen their operations.”
