Toronto – The Ethiopian Airlines on Wednesday announced that it has launched a new route to Porto, the coastal city of Portugal. The city is prominent for its UNESCO-designated Ribeira district and wine production among other things. it is also one of the popular tourist destination in the city.
Starting today, Ethiopian Airlines is flying passengers to the city four times a week.
Ethiopian Airlines Porto route launching event was said to be a colorful one. Ambassador Luisa Fragoso, Portuguese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ministers and Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Mesfin Tassew attended the event at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa which is owned and operated by the Airline.
The Airlines has more than 18 destinations in Europe.
New direct cargo flight route to China
In a related development, Ethiopian Airlines announced this week that it is starting twice-weekly cargo flights to the Chinese city of Urumqi, second largest city in Northwestern China. It will be operating on Mondays and Thursdays. According to Chinese news sources, this cargo flight links Xinjiang province exporters to Africa and global networks. From Africa, it will be delivering export items like beef, lamb, coffee and horticulture products to the city. IN addition to coffee, Ethiopia itself has been exporting some of these products for some time now.
Xinua quoted Liu Jingyi, an official from the customs office at Urumqi airport, as saying “The route is expected to attract more enterprises across the supply chain, foster related industries, and create new jobs.”
