TORONTO, Canada — Attacks on ethnic Amhara’s living in rural areas in Wollega, Oromia region of Ethiopia is reportedly worsening.
Anchor Media aired video footage of armed groups burning homes. Gida Ayana, Guten and Kiremu areas are most affected. According to the report, the regional state security forces are involved in the attack.
Thousands are trapped in the jungles fearing for their lives. Thousands more are displaced from the localities mentioned above. The number of wounded and killed is unspecified. A video circulating on social media shows a girl with wounds in the leg laying beside the dead body of her mother. The video is not independently verified. However, there have been similar stories from the area.

It seems to be customary for a YouTube channel in our Diaspora to show two different video news allegedly from the same region in the same week usually a day or two apart. It looks intended to diffuse any backlash about the previous one. The first one shows where armed men intercepting commercial heavy trucks and burning some of them. It also shows homes blown up and burned to the ground. That was alleged to have had happened on August 19, 2026. All that took place in the Western part of the country in Wallaggaa zone.
Then 7 days later today on August 26, 2026 we are told about an alleged atrocities perpetrated against an innocent group of people in the same Western part of the country in the Wallaggaa zone. No one should condone atrocities against any group of people or individuals. Such act is repugnant and a crime in any international law. The folks of this channel seem to realize that the first video may qualify as evidence of a crime. Then they had come up with another video news to diffuse any pushback from the watching public. It keeps viewers coming band and back. That is called being business savvy; I guess. That is why I always question video news channels. I will take them seriously if they are independently verified by esteemed websites like Borkena. That is why I have been nagging the dear editors of this website to verify news I consider worth validating. Again, I am not denying the fact that innocent civilians have been victimized since the overthrow of the late Emperor in 1974.
