Toronto – Hadera Abera, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, reportedly held a meeting this week with Maika Osikawa, Director of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Accessions Division, in Yokohama, Japan.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
The Ministry disclosed that their meeting focused on “Ethiopia’s progress and roadmap toward WTO membership.”
The Ethiopian government says it has been working on advancing “bilateral negotiations and maintaining constructive dialogue with key partners. “
During the meeting with Maika, Hadera reportedly reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to finalize bilateral market access to partners.
The state minister has also expressed hope that the WTO secretariat “would enhance its support for the country’s accession process.”
According to the Ministry, Ms. Maika Oshikawa noted Ethiopia’s commitment to join the WTO, and that the Secretary would “provide the necessary support to facilitate Ethiopia’s membership journey.” Borkena was unable to independently verify the report from the WTO.

This is a photo I want to see everyday with one of our glorious women in position of managing the country’s policies. I have no doubt whatsoever in the capabilities of our sister H.E. Hadera bint Abera to lead the entire ministry. Pick any one of our women. I will let you go even to that huge open air market place, The Merkato, and pick any of those women who have stalls selling what they have. Every one of them can do a much better job running any government institution including the premiership. Then they can tell us the men to go back, way back in line and stay there for the next 100 years, at least. Continued success our dear sister H.E. Hadera bint Abera! Hey misogynists! Jump in the lake!!!
