My expertise lies in research and entrepreneurship rather than politics – a field I have both practiced and taught. The concept, as defined by the OECD, encompasses starting new ventures, expanding existing ventures into new markets, or innovating in novel ways within established operations. Those engaged in such activities are entrepreneurs.
Yet today, I write not about entrepreneurship—though it remains urgent for young Ethiopians—but about what I call “war-preneurship”: a deliberate political practice that has defined Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s tenure. It follows the same blueprint. Starting brand new wars. Expanding existing types of conflicts to new territories. Innovating in ways never witnessed before to perpetuate the same violence. By this definition, he fulfills the criteria: he is a “Warpreneur”.
My calling has always been research—work that helps smallholder farmers, advances food justice, and supports communities in need. I believe in specialization: people should focus on where they can contribute most. For years, I imagined I would never write about politics. But when a nation grows numb to crisis, when exhaustion replaces outrage, silence becomes complicity. Some of us must speak, even if reluctantly—and I speak from what I know.
When Abiy Rose to Prominence
He was hailed as a reformer—a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a leader praised for reconciliation and optimism. Many believed Ethiopia was entering a new chapter. Yet, the past several years have revealed something very different: a pattern of governance that relies on perpetual conflict to consolidate power, silence dissent, and distract from failures of governance.
The Politics of Perpetual War
Critics often accuse Abiy of inconsistency. In truth, his consistency lies in the pursuit of conflict. From the war in Tigray to the continuing violence in Amhara and Oromia, the country has been caught in a cycle of militarization. Even now, discussions of opening a new front—this time over a port—signal not vision, but obsession with violence.
Of course, the TPLF era had its share of repression. There were human rights violations and limits on political freedom. But there was also a functioning state. People could travel from one place to another without fear of being kidnapped or caught between militias. There was a monopoly on violence—something a state must maintain to prevent chaos. Infrastructure expanded, poverty declined, and basic services improved.
Today, the reverse is true. Violence has become decentralized. Local militias operate with impunity. Law enforcement is selective. Millions of children are out of school. Hospitals and clinics lie in ruins. And the government, instead of repairing what is broken, looks outward—imagining prosperity through access to a port while ignoring the collapse within.
The Real Priorities
The idea of gaining a seaport may sound strategic. But what good is access to trade routes when classrooms are empty, teachers displaced, and communities living in fear? Before dreaming of ports, Ethiopia must first secure peace within its own borders. That means rebuilding damaged infrastructure, negotiating with armed groups, restoring public trust, and making the country safe for ordinary citizens.
Development cannot coexist with endless war. No investor will build factories in regions where drones strike villages. No parent will send children to school in fear. The economy cannot grow when millions are displaced and traumatized.
A Generation at Risk
Since 2018, children in Amhara, Oromia, and Tigray have witnessed violence more than education. They are growing up in fear, not hope. Their trauma will shape the nation’s future—its politics, its economy, its very identity. This is not an abstract concern; it is a generational emergency.
What kind of leadership profits from such despair? What is the return on investment in war? History teaches that no country builds prosperity through conflict. Ethiopia will not be the exception.
A Call for Peace and Accountability
If patriotism means building a strong and united Ethiopia, then true patriotism today demands restraint, dialogue, and healing. The government’s legitimacy must not come from control through force, but from the trust of its citizens.
Our priorities must shift—from war-preneurship to nation repair. From fueling new conflicts to rebuilding schools and hospitals. From rhetoric of pride to policies of peace.
Ethiopia deserves a week, a year, a decade free from war. Children deserve to grow up seeing books, not bullets. And a generation that has known nothing but violence deserves a chance to rebuild a peaceful country.

Thanks to Abiy, the TPLF is now viewed as synonymous with ‘the good old days’. ( ‘the good the bad & the ugly) Unfortunately, only seeing the ugly, one has no appreciation for how good the bad really was.
When a ‘Prime Minister’ constructs a PALACE (overlooking the city), it hints that a crown is being fashioned in secret. Before anyone realizes it, preparations for his ‘JUBILEE’ will be in full swing.
Africa’s ‘immortal leaders’ ( like the one posted in Borkena, on Nov 1st, ) learnt & incorporated ‘Divide and rule’ as their longevity-policy; when it works, else if their western-masters no longer need them they go away with suitcase-full of dollars somewhere where the grass is greener ( as our last brutal colonel did), and life goes on and the people rebuild from the runes…all over again.
The cycle of life, for the ‘convinced , tricked’ & HUNTED by DRONE…
Hope they do not get offended & throw you in jail for (for showing them the MIRROR) ‘telling it like its is’. ‘Incompetence’ lacks AWARENESS.
Be well.
These psychopathic episodes our nations recent ‘leaders’ & some portion (‘enlightened’-tribes) of our society are suffering from since 1974 (1991-tplf, 2018-oromo) (more and more in our wider world sine the 1990s) is ONLY happening in the individual (collective-group-think) BRAIN where unable to FIGURE THINGS OUT PROPERLY at the SOURCE, but lashing out is often taking place ON people that have reality have NOTHING to do WITH THE PERSONAL psychopathic-episode we individually (tribe-think-episode) suffer from; & where the answers to their PROBLEMS are NEVER ever TO BE FOUND.
Biden fall off his bike trying to talk to reporters, Abiy was reported to have said ‘ my heart jumped into my throat’ hearing about the incident /watching the video. Abiy being asked about the killing of innocent-civilians in Oromo region, was reported to have said ” there are more propel killing happening in Chicago everyday therefore, the killings here are not unique…”
Trump talks about STOPPING the killing in Ukraine, by asking /threatening Russia to STOP, but he is sending the BOMBS & missiles for the killings in GAZA & Ukraine; and preparing to invade Venezuela, sunk 16 or so ‘narco’ boats (fishermen) in Venezuelan’s water…,. Bombed Iran on behalf of Israel, threatens to invade /kill Nigerians, while welcoming the NEW Syrian (former ISIS (US-fighters) ) ‘leader’ (who is killing ‘CHRISTIANS’ in Syria) to the White house.
What is Venezuela, Iran, Nigeria, Russia, & Syria have in common OIL.
And calls himself ‘the Peace president’.
Here is the TRUTH, if the people in the Oromo region that are considered ‘enemy’ (regularly killed in mass) all disappear tomorrow morning, if all the people TPLF sees as enemy disappear overnight, if Israel & US got ALL their WISHES come true AND HAVE ALL THE LAND and OIL under their control…, NONE OF THEM WILL BE HAPPIER than they are now or they hope to be; simply because, their PROBLEM was NEVER EXTERNAL.

Average life of 70/80 years is a ‘blink of an eye’, life is meant to be EXPERIENCED, we are not here TO GATHER, they left a PYRAMID in the desert, didn’t care to stay LONGER, but we have no idea what they look like…
In a few decades/ centuries no one will Know we were even here, how we made LIFE MISERABLE to those AROUND/NEAR US, since Columbus.
Imagine, when AI & Robots take all the JOY OF GETTING ourselves useful by IMMERSING in what we considered to be worthwhile creative endeavor (engagements) and when we are no longer NEEDED to participate as we are now/have been up to now, and are left to find our own ways from Sunrise to Sunset ( like the tools LEFT IDLE in the tool shack) ; what would the world be like, no doubt many will find creative ways to make their life very rewarding in many different ways in self-directed endeavors/interests , but how would the psychos be like in the ‘zombie apocalypse’ 24/7 (365)?
Be well.
Bla bla bla, nice Biography my friend, but keep in mind that just because you are unable to see how good/ Much better this government is, it doesn’t mean that others can’t see it….
I am honestly very confused about the so-called educated Ethiopians; how come they always fall under Ashmur and neighborhood chat. How come they are unable to see what i am seeing across the board in Ethiopia since this government took over? How come they ignore international recognition and appreciation of Dr Abiy Ahmed in so many areas? Why they are so broken in their mind to the point they can’t even grade anything without being prejudice, yet they want to enlighten the society? ARE GOBEZ ENDABATOCHACHEN TINISH ENEFER (SHY) ENEBEL….saygebaw yemiyaboka beza lebel?

” Progress …If there is a will to change (Political will) less than 5 years ago Azerbaijan embarked on projects of developing their INFRASTRUCTURE and i was there for the Eurasian Economic Conference in 2022 when these projects were starting… people were discussing very concrete constructive economic development ideas & projects between then now (2022-205) they built:
a) 4,000 km of HIGHWAYS
b) 447 bridges
c) 50 tunnels, one of them largest and longest tunnel in the world.
d) 16 viaducts
all of these were built in less than 5 years and the total cost was $5 billion… (~ equal to $ cost of GERD)
So, this what can happen when a societies RESOURCES are not being wasted on WARFARE.”
