Toronto – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFAE) on Tuesday announced that Ethiopia is selected to host a UN Climate Summit #COP32 in 2027.
In a brief update on its social media page, MFAE said “With the strong backing of the Africa Group, Addis Ababa is set to become the meeting ground for the world’s climate leaders in 2027.”
The Ministry tends to see that the Green Legacy and investment in clean energy Ethiopia has been making is a testament that “Ethiopia embodies the spirit of sustainable transformation.”
Reuter’s report published on Tuesday indicated that Nigeria was competing in the bid to win host status for the climate summit. MFAE said Ethiopia secured the support of the Africa Group.
What the win means for Ethiopia is, according to sources, it will be assuming a presidency role which enables it to influence goal setting for the summit and its outcome. Ethiopia will also be in a position to highlight its own challenges related to climate issues.
The decision has not yet been “officially adopted.” However, Ethiopia has got the support of African nations.
Reuters cited Ethiopian Ambassador to Brazil, Leulseged Tadese Abebe, as saying, to a plenary session of the COP30 summit, “We are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence bestowed on the Ethiopian people and government.”
The host country for COP31 is not yet confirmed. Australia and Turkey are pursuing the role, according to Reuters. COP30 is underway in the Amazonian city of Belem, Brazil and over 50,000 participants are taking part from across the world.
Ethiopia expects a similar number of participants from around the world.

The current ‘Climate Crisis’ is the OUTCOME of ~400 years of Capitalist ‘RENT SEEKING” (maximizing PROFIT) scheme.
When GDP and (narrow) ‘Economic-Growth’ ( such as ‘AI & Chips’) are measured (erroneously) by ‘HUGE PROFIT MARGIN’ ( Higher Rent return) ‘expectations’ for hundreds of years, it easy to get mislead and call PRICE DROPS and LOWER PROFIT MARGINS ( (engineered) ‘Sustainable Development’ ) as ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, while the DATA (of 45 years) from China shows, the OPPOSITE is true.
It just shows that ‘rudimentary’ methods may bring intended results (some of the times) but they ARE NOT sufficient enough tools to rely on to determine future OUTCOMES, ( “The proof is in the pudding”).
