Toronto – A seven years old boy who was kidnapped is reportedly killed and his bodies were found in Enda Krecherat’ locality of Endabaguna, Shire area of the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
The child is identified as Naod Teklay. The body was sent to Mekele for autopsy.
According to a BBC Amharic report published this week, the mother paid 600,000 Ethiopian birr to the kidnapper.
Yordanos Gayem, the 32 years old mother, learned about her child’s death on social media.
She told BBC Amharic that it was Shepherds who discovered the body of her son. The source reported that the mother has been living in South Sudan for a few years now so as to provide for her two children.
Yordanos resorted to social media to search for her son after she was informed about his disappearance by family members.
Days after the disappearance of her son, she says she got a phone call via imo with a user name “my black” and the profile picture was a handgun.
BBC Amharic cited her as saying that the caller told her that her missing son was in the hands of bandits and that he could be released if she pays money.
What the kidnappers asked for was 2 million birr. They reportedly sent a video footage of her son asking his mother to pay the money.
From the BBC Amharic account, the kidnappers sent multiple video footage. In one of them. They were threatening the seven year old boy to kill him with a knife.
It is also indicated that there was a back and forth conversation between the kidnappers and the mother.
Yordanos is cited as saying that she told the kidnappers to consider a discount as she could not afford to pay 2 million birr. Initially, they offered a 300,000 discount.
Yordanos deposited 600,000 birr to the accounts of the kidnappers. A day after that the captors sent a message to her to add only 400,000 instead with a warning that she will not find her child alive “if she does not send the money within a short time.”
From the report, the kidnappers continued to communicate with Yordanos after killing her child. It was after this that Yordanos got a phone call from family members not to send the 400,000 but rather visit home.
“When they sent me a dead body of my son with a message of condolence via facebook, I fainted. People who were nearby picked me up and calmed me down, and sent me back to my country,” Yordanos is quoted as saying.
The security head of Endabaguna Town has reportedly said nine suspects are in custody. However, after investigation it was established that those involved in the killing might have fled to another country. BBC Amharic said the county is not disclosed based on a request from the security official to not negatively impact the investigation.
The security official is cited as saying that it is for the first time for a crime like this to happen in Endabaguna but kidnapping of children is becoming prevalent in the region.

There you have it. What my merchant relatives have been telling me is true and factual. They have been telling me how thugs forming underground groups and kidnapping those they think with deep pockets and easy prey for ransom. They take the ransom money to finance their illegal migration to pay for the traffickers. Who knows some of them may have got as far away as Minnesota, Toronto, LA, Seattle, Oslo and Down Under. Just look at this totally un-Ethiopian savagery except Mengistu’s time. They took the money and still killed her 7-year old angelic son. Woe, woe, woe!!!! This is going to give me nightmares just thinking the wrenching agony this mother is going through now. Hon, I am sorry my wife and I could not be there by your side and wipe away your tears. Your young boy is now resting in the arms of angels and in eternal peace.
Terrible
Such evil must be punished severely
