Toronto – Tigray Interim Administration President, Tadesse Worede, has been sort of optimistic that a war will not break out in the region again. That does not seem to be the case any longer.
DW Amharic on Monday cited him as saying “There is a visible cloud of war.” He reportedly said so during a two days long meeting for senior party leaders in the region, according to the source.
However, he seems to have the conviction that there is still a chance for peace.
He has remarked on the political situation in the region too. Tadesse described the political situation in the region as “complicated.”
“As we all understand, the existing situation is complicated. There is a visible cloud of war. There are situations, big and small, that change from e to time. Meanwhile, there is also a situation where the chance for peace is not closed,” Tadesse said.
He elaborated further regarding what he called “internal condition.” He is quoted as saying “our [Tigray] vulnerability has increased” due to what he called “restless internal condition.”
Tadesse also made allegations about unspecified political groups in the region. “An entity is created among us that works outside of the interest of Tigray.”
The meeting took place on Saturday and Sunday. As many as 800 senior political leaders took part in it. It was organized with the theme “National Unity for ensuring existential security.”
The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) on its part has reportedly reiterated the call for the Federal government to “respect the Pretoria agreement.” The Federal government alleges that the TPLF itself was being an obstacle to the implementation of the agreement. More recently, the Federal government accused the Debretsion faction of the TPLF of working with “external forces,” – presumably a reference to the political and military alliance with the Eritrean government.
Participants of the meeting have accused the Abiy Ahmed led Federal government of intimidation in lieu of addressing “constitutional questions.”
Participants of the meeting are cited as saying “The Ethiopian government response to a constitutional question from Tigray has become ‘intimidation’.”
The political forces in Tigray have been accusing the Federal government of failure to implement the Pretoria Agreement which ended the bloody conflict in November 2022.
On the part of the forces in Tigray the core issues are the return of displaced people and territorial claims. Particularly the TPLF under Debretsion Gebremichael wants the return of the areas TPLF incorporated into Tigray after 1991 – this question is framed as a matter of “respecting the constitution or not.”
Young politicians from the region paint a different picture. Notably, the late Meles Zenawi’s daughter, Semehal Meles, this week made headlines when she remarked that the TPLF pursued a heavy handed policy in areas like Wolkait, which it claims as part of Tigray.
She questioned why the TPLF deployed huge forces in the area for decades – a practice not observed anywhere else in Tigray.. She added that TPLF can not make Wolkait part of Tigray by force. “There was a nation building failure,” she added.

“Tigray Interim President Sees A Cloud Of War?” Why is that news? Cloud of war is the default position for Tplf! That’s how they held on to power, made money, and married young girls barely above legal age.
Do you have proof that TPLF members married young girls?
