Getachew Reda sees a possible movement for the secession of Tigray

Toronto – Tigray Region Interim Council delegates this week reportedly met with U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga in Addis Ababa
Moges Tafere, speaker of the council, and his deputy Dejen Mezgebe reportedly led the delegation that held talks with the Ambassador according to a report from Ethiopian Reporter.
Discussion focused on the current situation in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Implementation of the Pretoria agreement, the return of Internally displaced people to their place and holding elections in the region are among the items discussed during the meeting.
The region has been experiencing political tension at least for the last six months as the TPLF faction under the leadership of Debretsion Gebremichael – who is said to have support from the military commanders in the region and Eritrean government – undertook what has been described as “creeping coup.” Getachew Reda, President of the Interim Administration, has fled Mekelle and is said to be currently in Dubai for “medical reasons.”
The Delegation also has plans to hold talks with the European Union and African Union. It was established by the Interim president of the region – Getachew Reda – about two months ago.
Over the past six years, it has been observed that diplomatic missions in the country are directly holding discussions including discussions of political nature with regional authorities.
Meanwhile, Getachew Reda reportedly said that many of the TPLF leaders (apparently those under Debretsion’s faction) are “working under the illusion that they can control Addis Ababa by force.” He also added that they might start a movement for secession, according to the report by The Reporter.
