Toronto – Ethiopian government has reportedly arrested at least 105 youths in the capital Addis Ababa over listening to Teddy Afro’s newly released music.
According to sources, police allege that “they have used the music to incite protest.” However, it is unspecified as to where in Addis Ababa and under what circumstances the youth attempted the alleged actions of “inciting protest.”
Over the past two days, there has been a lot of enchantment among Ethiopians in connection with the release of Teddy Afro’s music.
As expected his new album became sensational. Almost all age democratic groups celebrated it. But his largest fan base is in the youth. The music was released on Thursday via the official Youtube page of Teddy Afro. One of the 18 tracks had over nine million views in less than two days.
What is known at this point is that 80 of the youths are arrested in Federal Criminal Investigation and the remaining 25 are in the third police division in the city. Many of the suspects are said to be under the age of 18. There is no indication if those who are of legal age appeared in court.
At the time of this writing, Federal and Addis Ababa police did not deny or confirm the arrest.
There are also reports indicating that the Federal Police, Addis Ababa Police and National Intelligence and Information Service (NISS) have been undertaking a joint operation since Teddy Afro’s Music was released on Thursday.
Some of the state-owned (like Ethiopian Media Enterprise) gave coverage to the Album release but it was removed hours after it was shared on social media. According to sources, all state-owned media outlets are ordered not to play Teddy Afro’s news song.
Released months before the scheduled national election, the government seems to see Teddy Afro’s song as a possible “protest inciting tool.”
Notably, the government has banned Teddy Afro’s scheduled press release days before the album was released.

I just discovered that one of the tracks was written in admiration and idolizing the ‘Tookie’ incarnate of Burkina Faso, the military gangster Ibrahim Traore. It shows this young man has been severely misinformed about the dictator who just told his people to forget ‘democracy’. Juntas has never been able to solve the nagging economic and political issues that have been bedeviling Africa or anywhere for that matter. They have made such issues even worse. The old country has bitter share of such destructive e xperience. He should have known that. But that is his opinion and in my book he is entitled to his opinion. If this track was about the military junta of Costa Rica of the early 1950’s that laid the ground for democratic rule in that country, I would have been with it.
Well, he is 50 years old. Like other 50 years olds of the country he is misinformed as hell.
