Support Group Urges EPRP  to Withdraw From National Election

Borkena

Toronto – With a few more weeks until Ethiopia’s National Election, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP) is urged to withdraw from it. EPRP is one of the member party in the Coalition for Ethiopian Unity.

The party’s support committee in the Diaspora  (it has released a statement this week which is available on Borkena Amharic page) is urging the party to do so.

It says the outcome of it is already a forgone conclusion. Taking part in the election in this situation amounts to disrespecting the people, the support group argues.

There have been allegations – with documented evidence – that the pre-election process has been marred by a range of irregularities including intimidation of candidates in parts of Ethiopia.

The ruling Prosperity Party is running without a contender in more than 68 electoral districts.

Solomon Gebreselassie is a member of the support committee. He explains why the support group is calling for EPRP to withdraw from it.

  1. I have watched the interview on YouTube in its entirety twice to make sure I did not miss any part of importance. Thank Almighty YouTube has it with English subtitles. The name of the person being interviewed sounded familiar and I was not wrong. In my persistent effort to catch up with events in the old country due to my absence concentrating on my corporate career one of the tasks I took upon has been collecting documents and memoirs written by those who were there. One of my collections is the book written by Brother Solomon. It is the story of his party called Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party : between a Rock and a Hard Place, 1975-2008. I liked his honesty in telling many events as they happened. I was not surprised though by the debacle his party went through and he was extremely lucky to come out of the bloodletting alive. I hope this is the same brother. By reading his book one can not miss the obvious that his party was created to be riddled with insurmountable problems beginning with the bankrupted extremist Marxist/Leninist ideology it chose which was total alien to the culture and values of that country. It told the gullible youth and the clueless population that it is organized to found the Dictatorship of The Proletariat in a country where there were hardly any sizable organized and strong proletariat. It called for a nationwide strike by the proletariat and that did not materialize except once. With the small size of factory workers then, it was an easy pick for the bloodthirsty Mengistu and his deonic gangsters.

Now the brother and his group in Diaspora are ‘ORDERING’ those on location inside the old country to boycott or otherwise face his faction’s rage. You quit and if you don’t you won’t see a single red penny from us. Or we will replace you with another EPRP. They are issuing this ultimatum from their comfy homes here among us. So the cycle continues. It is really saddening. My layman’s advice to those inside the country is to not boycott the election and give the peace a chance.

    Peace y’all!!!

  2. Meanwhile, my hope is hinged on the decisive action by the citizens of the country. I’m confident that the eligible voters to make their own choice in deciding whether to go out to the polling stations and cast their votes or stay at home and boycott. They have my full support for whichever option they chose.
I also want to remind the thugs attached to the regime that the world is watching you. You should never forget the historical fact that regimes go as they come. Who thought the old Soviet Union will crumble overnight? You remember Mengistu and pre 2018 EPRDF? You must have heard what happened to Idi Amin, Muammar Gaddafi and next door Siad Barre. They are all in the garbage bin of history. You are duly forewarned.
    Peace y’all!!!
