Most areas of the Amhara region of Ethiopia experienced intense fighting in the past few days

Toronto – Despite continued claims from the Ethiopian Defense Force that it is gaining upper hand over Fano forces in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, the latter are claiming significant military gains in several areas in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. However, Fano forces also report that government forces are shelling residential areas killing non-combatant civilians.
According to Ethio News, a credible local news source with links to sources in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, reported intense several hours long battle between Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF) division and government forces in West Gojjam are of Amhara region. Government forces were reportedly moving from Bure to Kuche, in the direction of Wollega, when Fano forces launched an offensive. Fano Forces claimed to have inflicted heavy losses to the government forces who reportedly retreated back to Bure after many of its forces were killed or wounded. The source, however, unpacified the number of casualties. Losses on the part of Fano forces were not specified either.
In the Shwarobit- Minjar zone, this is within a two or three hours of drive to the capital Addis Ababa, AFBF Kessem division claimed to have inflicted heavy losses on government forces. The fighting took place in 05 locality of Berehat. It was a day-long battle, according to the source. Government forces allegedly shelled a health center and a residential area in Shega locality. Severe damage to residential property and the health center. However, the number of casualties from both sides are unspecified.
In North Wollo, Abahoy Gora, Dengay kebelew, Arefa Giorgis and Aradom localities of Raya area have reportedly experienced intense fighting over the past few days. Again, AFNF divisions in the area claimed significant military gains particularly from an operation targeting a military camp in Aradom town. The source also cited locals from the area to report that government forces shelled residential areas after suffering unspecified losses. Civilians killed and property damaged.
In South Gondar, government forces reportedly launched an operation to besiege AFNF divisions in the area. However, Fano forces from the area exploited leaked information from the military intelligence and rather brought government forces under siege. The source added that government forces suffered heavy losses.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked about any of the above claims from Fano forces, In its latest update, it claimed it seized firearms (two machine guns) that were meant to be delivered to Fano forces in North Shoa. It said it originated from the Afar region of Ethiopia.
