Toronto – Fighting between Fano forces and government forces reportedly continued in many parts of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Ethio Focus news, reported clashes in West Wollo. At least four government forces are killed and several others injured following an attack Fano forces launched on military camping.
In a battle in the same area, government forces have reportedly suffered casualties. Two farmers are killed and harvest is damaged as government forces were indiscriminately shelling in what appears to be a retaliation campaign on the part of Fano forces.
Civilian casualties are also reported in Gondar. According to the source, three farmers were killed in the Debre Tabor area of South Gondar. In Ebenat, 17 civilians were killed as they were returning from celebrating St. Stefanos day.
In Shewa, there was a fighting Meragna area between Jara and Aleme Ketema. Kesem and Asmare Dagne Division of Fano forces engaged government forces in a conventional war. Government forces have reportedly deployed mechanized units to the area. However, they have suffered heavy casualties, according to the sources. Numbers are unspecified.
Metema, North West Gondar, is another area where an intense fighting has been reported between Fano forces and government forces for three days now.
In Finote Selam, West Gojjam, there was a fighting near Gulesh. At least 12 government forces were killed, according to the source. One Fano member is reportedly killed in this particular battle.
In East Gojjam, there was a clash between Debre Markos and Erob Gebeya. Government forces have suffered a serious loss, according to the source.
It has been more than a month now since the government declared what it called “final operation” against Fano forces in the region.
At this writing the government has not remarked about what appeared to be coordinated Fano offensives in different parts of the Amhara region. For the past two weeks, the government made claims of military gains both in the Amhara and Oromia regions.
Meanwhile, the Amhara Association of America reported that there were 43 drone and airstrikes in 22 districts across the Amhara region between September 25th and October 24th . The number of victims is reported to be 273 ; 196 deaths (including women, children and elderly) and 77 injured. Other sources indicate that some of those injured were in a life threatening condition which means that the death toll could rise.
