Toronto – The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) is accusing Ethiopian government of launching attacks against Borana Oromo communities within the Kenyan board. It called the alleged military action “violent campaign.”

In a statement it released on Friday, the group stated “Recently, the Abiy regime has also extended its violent campaign beyond Ethiopia’s border, directly targeting unarmed civilians in northern Kenya under the pretext of pursuing OLA.”

It also called Kenyan authorities to take “immediate action” to stop Ethiopian forces from using Kenyan territory as a ground to commit atrocities against Borana people, as it calls it.

“This operation, involving Ethiopian security forces, operating on Kenyan soil constitutes blatant violations of the rights of Borana civilians in Northern Kenya,” the statement added.

This week, the Ethiopian defense force was making claims that it killed hundreds of OLA armies and sized several fire arms. About two weeks ago, the OLA itself made claims that it killed over 700 government forces in a  coordinated operations in many parts of Oromo region of Ethiopia.

The OLA also accused  the Abiy Ahmed’s administration in connection with developments in Somaliland and Djibouti where by authorities ordered the expulsion of Ethiopians “often singling Oromos.” It sees it as an offshoot of the administration’s “reckless policies.”

“The genocidal campaigns and reckless policies of Abiy Ahmed’s regime have forced our people  to endure  relentless sufferings, not only in Ethiopia but also in neighboring nations where they have sought refugee.”

It called on these countries to uphold “international obligation” in protecting refugee, and to make a distinction between “the people and the oppressively regime of ruling Ethiopia.”

The group has recently been making a claims of recurring military gains against  government forces in many area of the Oromia region. On the other hand the group has been linked, at least for five years now, to the massacre of civilians, mostly ethnic Amhara, and kidnappings which has been prevalent in the region. However, however the group denies that it was involved in the massacre of civilians and killings. It pointed finger back to the government saying that has operatives under the guise of OLA forces.
