Toronto – The number of passengers gunmen kidnapped after attack F.M. Bus Transport Services reported to be over 50. The company has reportedly confirmed the story.

The incident occurred on Tuesday near Alidoro between Fiche and Gerba Guracha, in the Oromia region of Ethiopia.

The bus was travelling from Addis Ababa to Debremarkos in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

The gunmen attacked the bus after opening fire hitting the bus tires and windshield . Images shared on social media showed a bus with a riddled windshield parked on the side of the asphalt road.

The gunmen then forced passengers off the bus and took them to an “unknown location.”

The company reportedly said the whereabouts of 41 passengers in unknown days after the incident.

There had been a similar incident involving the company’s bus about four months ago. Otherwise abducting a passenger’s bus is a recurring experience.

Those kidnapped are usually given the option between violent death or paying a hefty ransom. However, there were recorded cases when kidnappers killed passengers after receiving ransom money.

The government alleges Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) – Shene as it calls them – are behind the kidnappings and passenger bus attack.

The militant Oromo nationalist group on its part points finger at the government saying government officials orchestrate the kidnappings for political and economic reasons.

There seems to be a growing belief among Ethiopians outside of the OLA group  that the government has organized its own group for assassinations and kidnappings.

There has been a call for an independent investigation into the issue but never implemented.

At the time of this writing, the government has not remarked about the latest incident in Alidoro.

  1. This is called ‘liberating people’ and not kidnapping by the students of the Lenchos and Ibsa’s. I guess. The money is not ransom but to cover the expenses spent to liberate the citizens from the veteran soldiers of the late Emperor Selassie regime. That was what the Rastaman wannabe camping out at a joint in Western Oromia told me. I’m just telling you what he said. Don’t kill the messenger here. Get your story straight. Before I go, I want to tell you that the Rastaman wannabe is said to have special taste for non-Oromo underage girls.
