(Nairobi, Kenya) — Representatives attending the Ethiopian National Dialogue Assembly achieved a notable breakthrough on August 11, 2026, formally ratifying joint accord documents on Religious Affairs and Peacebuilding following intensive multi-week consultations in Addis Ababa.
The signing ceremony took place during a plenary session, marking the first finalized consensus agreements produced since the assembly convened on July 15, 2026, under the direction of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC).
The assembly’s work is organized across eight core thematic tracks identified during earlier nationwide consultative phases. To manage the large delegation, the Commission divided participants into eight distinct working bodies of 500 members each.
Under established procedural rules, each 500-member body focuses exclusively on a single thematic area to allow thorough examination of sensitive national issues. This methodical approach guarantees that delegates can engage in comprehensive debate, resolve policy differences, and formulate actionable policy recommendations.
The delegates assigned to Religious Affairs and Peacebuilding completed their synthesis of public inputs after several weeks of small-group and sub-committee discussions. The Religious Affairs group focused on frameworks for interfaith tolerance, institutional secularism, and historical dispute resolution, while the Peacebuilding committee outlined strategies for conflict prevention, societal healing, and national unity.
Upon concluding their internal reviews, members of both groups signed off on their final recommendation packages during today’s joint session.
The six remaining thematic groups—focusing on constitutional reform, state architecture, economic policy, and institutional governance—are concluding their discussions. Commission leadership confirmed that these remaining panels will present and sign their respective final proposals in similar plenary meetings over the coming days.

So far so good. It should continue on its current path of accommodating and compromising. The next phase from what I am reading in this report will be undoubtedly tense, occasionally raucous and the longest part of this potentially nation saving dialogue. That is normal and expected in such dialogue(it is almost a convention to me). It has been my daily prayers that it succeeds and proves itself fruitful. That country had chances with wars, destruction and it had its glorious day when it was airtight united. All the best countrymen and women!!!
