Federal executive reassignments bring leadership changes at the African Leadership Excellence Academy
By Staff Writer
NAIROBI, Kenya — Mohammed Rafi Abaraya has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX), succeeding Zadig Abrha in the latest series of federal executive and institutional reassignments.
Zadig had served as president and CEO of AFLEX since October 2023, overseeing leadership development programs, capacity-building initiatives, and executive training for senior government officials. During his tenure, he promoted theories of institutional capacity, servant leadership, and psychological resilience while frequently publishing commentary on governance and personal empowerment.
A prominent figure in Ethiopian politics, Zadig previously served as state minister and head of media and public relations in the Prime Minister’s Office. Eight years ago, while pursuing postgraduate studies at Oxford University, he publicly announced his resignation from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), citing internal marginalization and political pressure linked to his Raya identity. He subsequently joined the Prosperity Party prior to his appointment to lead AFLEX.
Federal authorities have not announced a new administrative assignment for Zadig following his departure from the academy.
