Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Lemi National Cement Factory has announced the supply of more than 12 million quintals of cement to the domestic market over the past six months, marking a significant milestone in its contribution to Ethiopia’s construction sector.
The factory, located near Lemi town in Ensaro Woreda of the Amhara region, is a joint venture between Ethiopia’s East Africa Holdings and China’s West International Holding. It officially commenced operations in April 2023 and is recognized as one of the largest cement production facilities in the country.
With a daily production capacity of 150,000 quintals, the plant has played a pivotal role in addressing cement shortages and supporting major infrastructure and housing projects nationwide, it said.
In addition to its economic impact, Lemi National Cement Factory reported that it has created employment opportunities for over 1,000 people. Local officials and company representatives also highlight the factory’s role in accelerating the urban and economic development of Lemi town and surrounding areas.
The company says it plans to further increase supply in the coming months as demand for cement continues to rise across Ethiopia.
