Armed attackers killed four farmers and abducted another in Kolme Woreda, Konso Zone

(Nairobi, Kenya) — An armed group killed four farmers and abducted another in Kolme Woreda, located within the Konso Zone of the South Ethiopia Regional State.
Local police reported that the assault occurred in Arba Klala village as the victims traveled to their fields. According to Inspector Dereje Dawuro, a representative of the Woreda Police Office, an armed unit of up to twenty individuals ambushed the farmers, opened fire, and fled with one captive.
Information gathered from local residents indicates that the group entered Arba Klala after crossing over from neighboring Kolango Zuria Woreda in the adjacent Alle Zone. Officials from the Alle Zone Peace and Security Department were unavailable for comment as they were attending security meetings.
The attack follows rising intercommunal friction along the administrative border between the Konso and Alle zones. Security officials noted a similar attack in Kolme Woreda approximately one month prior, which killed nine people and destroyed residential homes, local schools, and health facilities. Local authorities continue to assess security measures across the border area to prevent further violence.
