Toronto – Thousands are reportedly leaving behind their homes in Arsi, Oromia region of Ethiopia, amid rising fears of religious conflict.

Ethiopian Media Service (EMS) on Thursday reported that many of those who are leaving are ethnic Amhara and followers of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Those who are leaving have been living in Arsi for generations. While residents who the source spoke to, on condition of anonymity,   confirmed the development, it is unclear as to where residents are moving to.

The number of residents who have left so far is unspecified.

However, there are also residents who refuse to leave and face what is coming ; a possible persecution of Christians.

There had been recurring massacres of ethnic Amhara and followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Arsi and other parts of the Oromia region in the past six or so years.

Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church news sources have not reported about the development at the time of this writing.

  1. I just read a story on AFP and BBC about migrants from our old country who are dead or missing off the shore of Djibouti. There were close to 200 including crews crammed on 4 dingy boats who are missing. Woe my people, woe! Woe!!! Woe!!! Woe!!!!!
