Toronto – Fano forces on Monday reported that they had attacked two trucks that were carrying government troops.
In a news update it released on social media, Amhara Fano National Force (AFNA) stated that the trucks were travelling from Lemmi to Jemma. The incident took place in a Jalota locality between the two points, it was said.
It is the South Amhara zone Atse ZeraYacob division of the ANFA division that undertook the operation. The location of the operation is within less than 150 kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa.
From the story the group shared on its social media page, the trucks were in flames after they were hit with RPG (apparently from a distance). Yet the news update seems to suggest that its combatants in ambush position had used a hand grenade in a close range.
“The trucks were entirely annihilated,” AFNF claimed.
Furthermore, it appears that there was intense fighting in the area following the incident. In the news update, it was stated “an intense fighting ensued to destroy the remaining guardians of the regime’s throne.”
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked about his particular incident at the time of this writing.
The claim from Fano is not independently verified. Restrictions in place made it difficult to cover conflict stories in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. However, other local Ethiopian news sources with sources in the area of operation have covered that story.
The Fano forces have attained a significant military gain in the North Wollo area of the region about three or so weeks ago. At least 470 government soldiers were killed and over 150 wounded in an offensive by Fano forces in Beklomanekia locality of the North Wollo. The Ethiopian government alleged that Eritrea and TPLF forces were involved in the operation which Fano forces dismissed as lies.
