Toronto – Fano forces reportedly continue fighting across Ethiopia’s Amhara region as part of “Operation Unity,” a coordinated campaign now in its 25th day. Battles have been reported in all four major areas of the region.
According to Ethio News, clashes have occurred in Woldia, Belesa, Minjar, and Gojjam, with Fano forces claiming victory.
In the Quara area of North West Gondar, fighting between government forces and Fano forces has persisted for six days. Sources indicate that Fano forces have taken control of Agam Wuha, Benur, Addis Alem, Abbay Dar, and Addis Argi. Fano forces claim to have killed 130 government soldiers, wounded 62 others, and captured 51.
In Adarkai, Fano forces launched an attack on a government military camp. Government troops reportedly dispersed following the assault, though casualty details remain unspecified.
In Woldia, Wollo, Ethio News—citing Fano forces—reported that a contingent of government forces, particularly anti-riot police, were attacked, with 40 dead and 20 wounded. The remaining troops were reportedly taken captive.
In South Wollo’s Gorenji area, Fano forces attacked anti-riot forces, killing 19. Casualties on Fano’s side remain unconfirmed.
In East Gojjam, Fano forces claim to have killed Inspector Asferachew, the head of anti-riot forces deployed in the area. Separately, in Addis Kidam (also in Gojjam), government forces reportedly killed two civilians—apparently outside of combat. The victims, identified as Wudneh Guade and Woizero Emawaysh, included one woman.
In North Shoa’s Minjar area, Fano forces allegedly opened fire on government soldiers while they were marching—presumably toward a deployment zone. Ethio News, citing local residents, reported that hours-long fighting ensued after the initial clash.
