Toronto – A day after Amhara region Peace and Security Office head, Eshetu Yesuf, made claims that “33,000 Fano Forces have surrendered to govern, Fano leader dismisses it.
Asres Mare, head of the Political Division of Amahra Fano National Movement, responded “if 33, 000 surrender, who is then remaining?”
Eshetu Yesuf was also making claims that the fano forces have lost popular support in the region. However, the leaders refuted this too. They have been sharing audio-visual contents on social media purportedly showing extensive political engagement with people in the districts and towns they control.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has been claiming for at least two years now that “Fano forces are weakened” and “not in a position to stand their ground and fight.”
Stories emerging from the region do not seem to suggest that “Fano forces are weakened.”
It has been well over three years now since the Federal government started what it called a “military operation” in the Amhara region with the stated objective of “disarming Fano forces within a few weeks.”
However, the Fano’s appear to have emerged stronger and more armed. They are in control of a considerable part of the Amara region to the point politicians in the opposition party are questioning if the 7th General election, which is scheduled for June this year, could take place in the region.
The Federal government has been alleging that Fano forces have formed an alliance with TPLF and Eritrea – something that the Fano forces deny.
Active conflicts are reported almost on a daily basis in different parts of the region.
In a related development, the global Amhara movement called for protest across many cities in Europe and North American cities opposing the election. The protest is organized with the theme ““No Ballots White Bullets Fly”

What did I tell you? There are 3 performers in this theatrical act. The sequence they grace us on the stage is not always constant. But when one comes on first, rest assured the other two will immediately follow. I am close to running out of numbers in my totals of government soldiers killed, wounded and captured and the number of rebel fighters surrendered, captured and ‘annihilated. What a troika of super star performers!!!
