Menelik Command of the Fano forces claims a significant military gain from weeks long operation in North Wollo, Amhara region of Ethiopia

By Borkena News Desk
BORKENA, TORONTO — One day after the Ethiopian Defense Force (EDF) claimed to have killed over 230 Fano combatants in Gojjam and Gondar, the Fano insurgency announced that 423 government personnel have deserted to the Menelik Command of the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) in less than a month.
According to the report, 304 of those who defected are members of the Ethiopian Defense Force, while the remainder are drawn from anti-riot police and regional militia units. Fano further claimed that 57 government personnel were captured during combat operations, including 24 military officers. Additionally, the group reported seizing 332 firearms and more than 28,000 rounds of ammunition.
The Menelik Command of the AFNM operates primarily in the Wollo zone of the Amhara region.
In a statement released Thursday—shared on social media by Asres Mare, the group’s public relations head—AFNM indicated that six corps of the Menelik Command have been engaged in active combat against government forces since June 8.
The Ethiopian government has reportedly launched a month-long, extensive military offensive across the Amhara region with the stated objective of dismantling Fano forces. This follows at least two similar “final operations” conducted in the region since the conflict began in August 2023.
For its part, the Fano insurgency claims to have achieved significant success through counter-offensive measures in the South Gondar and North Wollo zones.
Intense fighting has also been reported in the Dega Damot area of Gojjam. The EDF recently claimed a significant victory there over what it describes as an “extremist group”—the government’s designation for Fano forces. Combat in this specific area has been ongoing for over a week. Despite the EDF’s claims, Fano maintains that its counter-offensive operations in the region are proceeding as planned.
These claims from both sides remain independently unverified, and the Ethiopian Defense Force has not yet issued a response to the latest statements from Fano.
Earlier this week, Fano forces claimed a significant military gain in an operation in Wollega, Oromia region of Ethiopia. However, this too was not independently verified.

In order to shorten the war and achieve quicjk victory, the Famo forces must first cut off the hands of Abiy Ahmed in the region. That is clear the region of collaborators and punish them as a lesson to all. Collaborator fri Tigray decimated Abiy Ahmed`s forces in weeks and advanced deep into Ethiopia (North Shewa) before the Biden adminstration`s diplomatic pressure to withdraw. The Fano Forces are not far away from the proximity of Abiy Ahmed`s power center (Finfine) but need to hit hard the collaborators in their ways.
Let’s see if things are congruent here. The halftime score is:
Fano 423 : ENDF 230. These two are so courteous that they have left enough room for the Rastaman wannabe aimlessly wandering in some wilderness to throw his own triumph on the battlefield. Like I said before none of them can top my Itu army success.
