(Nairobi, Kenya) — Enat Party, one of Ethiopia’s vocal opposition political organizations, has officially declared its total rejection of the ongoing National Dialogue process, accusing the ruling Prosperity Party of manipulating proceedings to serve narrow political interests rather than addressing the country’s existential crises.

In a position statement released on August 12, 2026, the party announced that it will refuse to sign or endorse any final agreements produced by the assembly. Party leadership warned that the current framework, far from stabilizing Ethiopia, threatens to entrench divisive ethnic federalism and trigger new waves of violent conflict.

Enat Party raised fundamental concerns regarding the selection and political composition of assembly delegates in Addis Ababa. The opposition group alleged that the overwhelming majority of participants are affiliated with or loyal to the ruling party, mirroring previous district-level consultations where critical voices were systematically sidelined.

“We have observed severe irregularities, including the suppression of dissenting perspectives, lack of inclusivity, unfair delegate selection, absence of transparency, armed security presence inside deliberation halls, and external pressures designed to undermine the integrity of discussions,” the statement reads.

The party further criticized the National Dialogue Commission for operating without clear operational red lines or a balanced structural framework, enabling the ruling administration to dictate outcomes.

In its critique, Enat Party argued that the consultation process fails to address the root causes of Ethiopia’s instability—most notably ongoing armed clashes across at least three major regions.

“Instead of bringing all warring parties to the negotiating table through bold, impartial peace proposals, the dialogue has degenerated into a tactical maneuver to legitimize decisions already made by one side,” the opposition warned.

The statement expressed deep alarm over the ruling party’s alleged intention to use the national assembly as a mechanism to validate controversial state restructurings, administrative boundary shifts, and long-standing governance directives without broad public consent.

Directly addressing government authorities, Enat Party urged the administration to cease using the national dialogue as a shield for political maneuvering at the expense of national survival. It also appealed to participating delegates to resist short-term political inducements and historical narratives of grievances, calling on them to prioritize the long-term unity of the Ethiopian people.

Calling on the general public to remain vigilant, the party emphasized that decisions finalized in the coming days could shape the country’s political landscape for generations. While reaffirming its commitment to Ethiopia’s sovereignty and peaceful political transition, Enat Party reiterated that it will not give legitimacy to a process it considers fundamentally flawed from its inception.

  1. I urge this party to stay in this nation’s fate deciding dialogue. Quitting will not further the accord for the besieged country. Don’t give up!
