Toronto – The 1446th Eid Al Fitr celebrated across Ethiopia was celebrated across Ethiopia on Thursday. In Addis Ababa, the Holiday’s Salat Prayer took place at Addis Ababa Stadium where tens of thousands of the faithful were gathered.
Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council reported that President of the Council Sheik Hadji Ibrahim Tufa and his deputy attended the prayer.
Addis Ababa police reported that the celebration was peaceful and no security incident was reported.
Nine cannon salute shots were fired in the morning in the capital Addis Ababa, as announced by the Ministry of Defense on Saturday.
President Take Atsekeselassie conveyed a message for Eid Al Fitr celebrated across Ethiopia . He wrote in Amharic on his social media page which could translate to “Dear Ethiopian followers of Islamic faith, Happy 1446th Eid Al Fatir.” He extended his message to Muslims around the world. “My best wishes for Eid AlFitr to all Muslims around the world.”
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conveyed a long written message for the holiday. While reflecting on the essence of the holiday, he also conveyed what appears to be a political message. “We all can not build a nation by respecting our side only. Our connection should transcend our side, and need to share the pain of the other side,” he said.
