Toronto – The number of Orthodox Christians killed in Sherka District of East Arsi, Oromia region of Ethiopia, reached 34 according to a report from the dioceses.
The diocese has confirmed that the number of those killed over the past three days is 30.
4 others were killed in Merti district.
The number of Orthodox Christians killed in the four days is about 34. 8 others are in hospital – some in a life-threatening condition. Still 8 others are missing and 2 are confirmed to be abducted.
According to the Mahibere Kidusan report, 164 Orthodox Christians have been killed in Sherka district alone in the past few months.
There had been recurring killings targeting the East Arsi zone of the Oromia region since after Abiy Ahmed became Prime Minister in 2018.
The government links the killings to a group it calls “Oneg Shene” – which calls itself Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). However, the group claims that the government itself is behind that killings.
Innocent civilians have been targeting mostly rural areas in many parts of the Oromia region.
There has also been what appears to be, on the surface, financially motivated kidnappings which are also allegedly linked to OLA.
The government has been unable to provide protection for citizens despite claims (both from the Federal and Oromia regional government) that the militant nationalist group – OLA- is no longer in a position to pose security risk.
Followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in East Arsi are expressing fear that the massacre will continue and pleading for government protection.
Yesterday, Ethiopian Orthodox Church Holy Synod released a statement denouncing the massacre and calling for the government to stop the massacre of Orthodox Christians in Arsi and elsewhere in the country. It said that the constitutional rights of Ethiopians to live in every part of the country and their rights to worship should be respected.
Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council also condemned the killings of Orthodox Christians in Arsi and called for the government to identify the perpetrators and take action.

We have to blame ourselves for letting Ethiopia’s Enemies divide us and trigger such cyclic bloodshed & turmoil using Parasite Proxies!
[ youtu.be/SOGPEJ9XI-o?t=20 ]: Wouldn’t such Amara Supremacists’ Anti-Oromo Venom put the Amaras in Oromo Zone [OZ] in harm’s way? Isn’t that Hate Crime? Don’t more Amaras live in OZ than in the Amara Zone [AZ]? Did Oromos invite them to live in OZ? Why don’t they move back to AZ if they feel unsafe in OZ and feel safer in AZ?
[ youtu.be/IXBVqbOe9uY?t=2320 ]: “Over 15 million Amaras live in OZ alone.” That’s far more than the Amaras in the AZ. Yet, I met NO Oromo in G&G over many years of sojourns. Frankly speaking, I even found/find G&G unwelcoming to Ethiopians!
Over 3 variables are often at play to destabilize-and-weaken Ethiopia from within via inter-ethnic or inter-religious conflict: Amara Supremacists, Oromo Extremists, Former Regime Proxies, Egypt’s Dogs [EPLF-TPLF, OLF-IFLO, ‘Amara Fanno’, etc.], etc.
Ironically, Ethiopia’s Enemies choose Amaras as their favorites to use as BOTH Agents Provocateurs & Victims. That’s because the Amaras live all over Ethiopia [especially in urban centers]. Most of these Amaras are usually from Gojjam & Gonder [G&G]. It’s mind-boggling to see the Amara Diaspora pushing this to clinch refugee status!
This must be universally condemned by all humanity across religious and ethnic lines. Somebody must accost and awaken that sleeping lumberjack in charge of that region. He has proven himself beyond the benefit of doubt that his physical body had grown much faster than his brain. Besides these demon who carried out this savage act on innocent poor farmers, I’m holding the president of Oromia and his incompetent entourage, every top official of the federal administration at Arat Kilo, those at one point who claimed to be founders and leaders of Qeerros and those who were busy demonizing these very same victims as land grabbing ‘settlers’, all responsible for such barbaric act. We should all bear in mind that these victims are Not all Amharas or all of them Christians. There were Oromos among them. How many of our legendary athletes were/are Christian Oromos who were born and raised in Arsi? There were also Muslim Oromos who were savagely murdered in the most gruesome ways because they were protecting their longtime Christian neighbors.
Such savage act makes me feel ashamed as an Oromo. It makes my blood boil.
