Ethiopia : Conversation with the generation from the 60’s

Borkena

Toronto – Arts TV on Tuesday published a conversation with three revolutionaries from the 1960.

Andargachew Assegid, Tamrat kebede and Petros Toja – all from the All Ethiopian Socialist Movement – one the major opposition parties with socialist political orientation.

The approach in the conversation did not entirely focus on their political activities. It rather seems to focus on the questions – in a way – what was it like to be a youth at the time? What was the youth culture in terms of entertainment and reading? The entertainment district of the time in the capital Addis was Wube Berha. Yet, it was not devoid of politics apparently.

How did they end up being politicized and turned out to be revolutionaries in the end? Apart from the influence of the time in the content of the national liberation movements in Africa and global socialist movement, Andargachew traces the start of this political life to a single book which he bought at the time from somewhere near Ras Mekonnen Dildiy area. Watch the video to find out about it, and share your remarks on the conversation.
