Toronto – The Ethiopian Embassy partnered with the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services to organize a coffee trade forum in Rabat, Morocco, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFAE) reported. The forum was attended by Ethiopian coffee exporters, Moroccan importers, roasters and distributors.
The event was attended by Nardos Ayalew, Ethiopian Ambassador to Morocco, and Hassen Berkani,President of the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services.
Ambassador Nardos spoke about coffee as an Ethiopian Heritage. “In her opening remarks, Ambassador Nardos Ayalew highlighted Ethiopia’s unique status as the birthplace of coffee, with a proud heritage of producing premium, high-quality Arabica beans renowned worldwide,” MFAE reported.
It appears that there is a growing interest for Ethiopian coffee in Morocco and a market is emerging for it. The Ambassador has emphasized “the importance of creating platforms that foster direct engagement between exporters and importers, enabling stronger and more meaningful trade partnerships.”
Hassen Berkani has confirmed the rising demand for Ethiopian coffee in Morocco’s major cities. He is cited as saying “Ethiopian coffee is well-positioned to meet Moroccan consumers’ evolving preferences for product quality and origin.”
Coffee constitutes Ethiopia’s major export item. The country is said to have generated over $1.4 billion from coffee exports in 2024. Nearly 300,000 tons of coffee was exported during the same year, according to sources.
