I am writing this on behalf of a few concerned Amharas who reside in the US and who are concerned by the lack of a unifying organization that can coordinate the efforts of the Amhara diaspora to support the Amhara people back in our motherland. To facilitate the formation of a non-profit organization or even a networking mechanism that could fulfill this need we have launched a website which can be reached at by clicking the link below; please visit the website and participate:

https://amharaunity.com

The Amhara people, even though they were at the core of the society that developed into the country which is now Ethiopia, have been marginalized by the TPLF and OPDO regimes since 1991. There is a great deal of interest among the larger Amhara diaspora in the US to support the ostracized Amhara people back in our motherland. In order to coordinate efforts of supporting the Amhara people in Ethiopia and maximize outcomes, it is of paramount importance that we the Amhara diaspora build a strong and large organization or even a network.

The purpose of this website is to facilitate the creation of a robust Amhara nonprofit organization in the US using a grassroots approach. This website will accomplish its goals by providing a forum for communication and a platform for member registration. The goals of the website will be fulfilled once a national assembly of delegates has adopted a charter and elected national leaders for a nonprofit organization.

Registration is free and open to all Amhara diaspora and all Amhara supporters who reside in the US. Register at this website by choosing the branch nearest to you. Share the information about this website with other members of the Amhara diaspora and encourage them to register. You can use the Share Link at the bottom of the webpage to share the website.

Submit formal articles on history consideration for posting under the Amhara History section of the website. Voice your opinion using the Member Blogs section and the Discussion Forums of the website. Please actively participate in this noble process so that we can form a strong unified group that will stand with the Amhara people in Ethiopia through thick and thin.

There are several benefits to the creation of a unifying organization that represents the Amhara diaspora:

  1. The news that the Amhara diaspora has formed a united front will be a huge moral boost for the Amhara people in Ethiopia in their fight for liberty and justice.
  2. The organization can help establish a free news media (such as a satellite radio or satellite TV) that can help promote the causes of the Amhara people in Ethiopia.
  3. The organization can coordinate the efforts of the diaspora to provide economic and humanitarian assistance to the Amhara people in Ethiopia.
  4. The organization can manage and conduct lobbying efforts to help shape US policy towards Ethiopia.
  5. The organization can coordinate the efforts of the Fano groups to form a united front.
  6. The organization can help the Fano garner diplomatic support in their struggle to liberate the Amhara people from the Abiy Ahmed regime.
  7. The organization can help in getting justice for the Amhara people who were victims of human rights abuses perpetrated by the Abiy Ahmed regime.

The website is financed by a few concerned Amharas who reside in the US. Membership is open to anyone, both Amharas and non-Amharas, who reside in America. All religions and all political affiliations, other than those allied to the current regime in Ethiopia, are welcome. Access for registration is blocked outside the US. There is no fee for registration and for maintenance of membership. This website does not plan to collect any money at all and, as stated above, the only aim of the website is to unite the Amhara diaspora.

Currently there are 21 branches. If the State in which you reside is not listed you can join any nearby State. Additional branches can be added in the future as needed. Please share this website with other Amharas and Amhara supporters. Let’s unite quickly and support the Amhara people in Ethiopia.

Please feel free to write blogs and history articles. Blogs can be submitted online by registered members. Manuscript for articles on Amhara history can be submitted via the email below by both members and non-members. Please also participate in the discussion forums. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the website administrator at amharaunity@hotmail.com
