Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –Tigrayan militants are entering areas bordering the Amhara region, particularly the area known as Raya Alamata.
Relative Peace had prevailed in the area following the signing of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, which brought an end to the two-year war in northern Ethiopia.
However, the incomplete implementation of this agreement has led to a growing fear of renewed conflict in northern Ethiopia.
Following this, reports indicate that Tigrayan militants are entering areas bordering the Amhara region, especially Raya Alamata.
Citing Tigray Interim Administration President General Tadesse Worede, the report stated that the decision is being implemented with the knowledge of the regional government.
For the past two years, this area, with its main center in Alamata, has been administered by federal government security forces.
The Tigrayan militant forces entering Raya and Alamata are reportedly asking the federal police in the area to vacate.
However, the federal police, who have been asked to leave the area, have not yet commented on the matter.
It has also been reported that the militants have not only stationed themselves in schools but are also dismantling former administrations in Mohoni, Chercher, Maichew, and the surrounding areas, and appointing new leaders.
It has been years since a request was submitted to the House of Federation for a lasting solution to be provided for Raya and its surrounding areas, which are claimed by both the Amhara and Tigray regions.
The House of Federation has also announced that it is in the process of finding a lasting solution for areas where identity and border claims are raised.
