Toronto – Addis Ababa City Peace and Security Administration has reportedly arrested over 900 people in the capital Addis Ababa. The office alleges that they were on a “mission” – which it says constitute a serious security concern for the city.
224 of them are said to be Eritreans. The security officials allege that they were operating in the city with a mission from the Eritrean government. It is not for the first time for Abiy Ahmed’s government security authorities to arrest Eritreans after relations with Eritrea deteriorated. There has been reported massive arbitrary arrest in November 2024. However, the Ethiopian government denied that there was illegal arrest.
In addition to Eritreans, 365 Ethiopians whom the administration linked to Fano forces in the Amhara region ( government calls them “extremists”) and the remaining were linked to forces in Tigray and Oromia regions of Ethiopia. While those from Tigray region are apparently linked to the Debretsion led faction of TPLF and suspects from Oromia region are linked to “Shane.”
It was unveiled during a meeting organized to evaluate third quarter performance of the office. The meeting which was held at the meeting hall of the Mayor’s office was not open for the media, according to a Wazema Radio report.
Security officials from district level attended it.
Lidiya Girma, head of the office, reportedly briefed participants on the current security situation of Addis Ababa city.
All the suspects including Eritreans were arrested over the past two months. It is unspecified as to that type of “mission” they were working on.
Tesfaye Dendir, Deputy head of the security sector, in the office reportedly shared current security information on the city. He is said to have described the current state of security situation in the city as “reliable.” Yet, he also made allegations that “different groups” with “evil intention” of their own are operating in the country.
He highlighted that the arrests were made over the past two months.

Here we go the same story but different times. We will see more so called “Spies” and consficating properties and businesses of Eritreans.coolheaded Ethiopians please standup.
Better Safe Than Sorry: If the Egypt-funded Eritrea’s EPLF/ELF waged >50-year war of secession & Eritreans voted ≈100% to secede from Ethiopia, what are >300,000 Eritreans doing in Addis? Eritreans have a country & a president they ‘love’, don’t they?
Eritreans & Ethiopians: If there is ANY Eritrean in Ethiopia to do Ethiopia any favor, let him/her leave Ethiopia, go to Eritrea, and do that for Eritrea! The EPLF is still Egypt’s proxy and bleeds Ethiopia at every opportunity it gets or any opportunity it orchestrates.
Eritreans: They exploit Ethiopians’ Achilles heel [hospitality/generosity/kindness]. That Ethiopian stupidity cost Ethiopia a generation [during the EPRP/Meison/Derg Era]. Eritreans infiltrated civic/student/political organizations & used them to get Ethiopians massacred.
EPLF Businesses: Its proxies run businesses in Ethiopia to fund EPLF & to bring down Ethiopia economically →money laundering [ForEx/real estate/etc.], fuel [transport/gas stations/etc.], rentals [buildings/motels/hotels/cafés/(spy lodgings)], night clubs/prostitution, traditional cloth sales/exports, home/office furniture, etc.
EPLF’s Agents in Ethiopia: How did they enter Ethiopia? What is the Port of Entry? Who gave them Ethiopian IDs? How come they work in diverse organizations without permits [embassies, NGOs, International Schools, Ethiopian Airlines, etc.]?
You are saying that while living outside Ethiopia. Moreover,Eritreans generally are hardworking and law abiding and the idea that just because you have issue with the government does not mean you have to harass innocent civilians. What happened to the Esu Esu tedemerenal and all of sudden they are perceived as enemies.
Daniel,
1). No Eritrean is in Ethiopia to do Ethiopia any favor! Why don’t these ‘hard-working Eritreans’ go to Eritrea, ‘invest their capital,’ and build Eritrea with their ‘hard work’?
2). Eritreans are a security risk to Ethiopia! They are “The Enemy Within!” They make Ethiopia vulnerable! Egypt/Embassies/NGOs/foreigners hire them as informants/contacts/etc.
3). I was laughing at Abiy’s naïveté when I saw him with your ‘beloved president’ [let alone dance to the ‘Esu-Esu’ crap]! I knew that Abiy would live to regret that! Isn’t that what we are witnessing?
