Toronto – Abiy Ahmed’s government on Wednesday celebrated seven years in power. “Prosperity Party” was established a year after the now defunct Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) selected him as Prime Minister upon Hailemariam Desaleng’s resignation.The self image of the party is aggrandizing.
The narrative from the people is starkly different. The image that emerges is that of agony and unprecedented multifaceted crisis. In his seven years of administration, Abiy Ahmed has been consistently in disastrous wars. The security situation in the country is a nightmare for many. This view is shared by many of the opposition parties in the country including those who consider themselves as Oromo nationalist parties.
