Addis Ababa – Eskinder Nega announced that he will not be working as a politburo member in the newly established Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM).
He announced this in a letter he wrote on Monday to the politburo of AFNM. He has also expressed his feelings about the formation of the new organization. He said he is pleased about it.
However, he declined the leadership role he was assigned to.
“Let it be known that I will not be working as a politburo member in our new unified organization; and I notify you to have a replacement in the position I was assigned,” Eskinder Nega wrote.
The reason why he is not interested in working in that capacity is unspecified.
What he specified is regarding his next move. He stated intention to work as an ordinary member of the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM). He said he will continue in that capacity without any precondition.
In a statement that AFNM released earlier this week, it was indicated that Eskinder Nega was assigned to the position of Policy & Strategy Directorate.
Before the merger, he had been serving as one of the key figures within the Amhara Fano Popular Organization (AFPO), now defunct due to the merger with the other Fano organization to form Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM).
He expressed his best wishes for the new leadership to achieve what he described as “historical responsibility” it is shouldering.

Eskinder declined his new assignment for two reasons: 1. He joined Fano as Amhara only to discover he was seen as Addis Ababan (hence an outsider). 2. Eskinder sees himself as a lone leader without realizing the kind of talent such leadership demanded. He is someone who would organize a new party so he could be leader.
