Toronto –   UN Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Mr. Guang Cong,  on Wednesday met with Eritrean President Isaias Afeworkin in Asmara.

Based on Eritrea’s Ministry of Information, the discussion focused on the developments in the region.

President Isaias was explicitly critical of the United Nations. ” President Isaias noted that UN role and track-record in the resolution of conflicts in the region has not been effective and will require a new approach,” the Ministry said.

One of the failures he sees is lack of “rigorous accountability modality”  vis-à-vis the deployment of peace keeping forces. In a way the president seems to suggest a structural reform for the president sees issues with ” holistic underlying frameworks.”

Yet again the president attributed the problems to what he described as ” the prevailing flawed international order.”

President Isaias was also critical of regional organizations. He seems to see “unwarranted external interventions” as reason why these organizations failed to deliver in line with what he described as “lofty objectives enshrined in their mandates.”

The Ministry of Information cited him as saying “In most cases, the regional organizations have become vehicles for external agendas.”

Sudan was also part of the conversation during their meeting. He highlighted his country’s effort to resolve the problem in the country. A reference was made to a concept paper Eritrea came up with    “a concept paper on the establishment of a popular governance structure based on citizenship.”  However, there have been views that the Eritrean government supports the Al- Burhan Group in its battle against rebel RSF leaders. When his forces retook Khartoum, Al- Burhan visited Eritrea and expressed his gratitude to Eritrea for its support.

What the UN special envoy remarked during the meeting with President Isaias Afeworki is not highlighted in the news release from the Ministry of Information.   Yet, he spoke to the state owned media – Eritrean News Agency.  He is cited as saying that he had “fruitful discussions” with the Eritrean President.

Tension developed between Ethiopia and Eritrea for well over a year now as the former, under Abiy Ahmed’s leadership, is pushing for access to the Red Sea Agenda. Eritrea and a considerable number of opposition groups see the move as a distraction tactic to divert attention from the multi-faceted crisis in the country.

  1. That is my main man Al-Toweel Isu. It was reported that the UN envoy lef5 the meeting in awe. He was pissed off why Isu was not consulted by the UN and the wold powers in their effort to find lasting solutions for issues around the world. He was educated for the first time about Unipolar and Multipolar world orders. The UN envoy declared to BBC, AP, Reuters and other news sources that my homeboy Al-Toweel Isu is in the top three world leaders of the 21st century. After the meeting the envoy was given the chance to travel throughout the country by himself. He noticed everyone is driving an electric car or suv. Every working truck is electric. Even all military tanks, fighter jets, helicopters, Humvees, warships and submarines all run on renewable energy and they are designed and manufactured in Eritrea. He also noticed massive grain storage silos throughout the countryside. He discovered that Eritrea has 100 million tons of surplus wheat, sorghum and Teff. He begged Isu for donation and received 6 million tons of wheat to feed millions of starving people in Ethiopia, Somalia, Australia, Malaysia, Idaho, Kuwait, Brazil, Taiwan and Belgium.

Right on my homie Al-Toweel Isu! Right on!!!
