Toronto – Eritrea is reportedly expressing readiness to discuss the Red Sea and Nile Basin issues.

The issue was raised during a high-level meeting between Eritrea’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Osman Saleh, and Massad Fares Boulos, president Trump’s senior advisor on African affairs, on the margins of the 80th Session of the  UN General Assembly.

From information the Eritrean Mission at the UN shared, their meeting seems to have discussed issues heading the two nations in the direction of rapprochement.

The United States and Eritrea are said to have explored possible areas of cooperation. Regional stability, security, and economic development are among the areas identified as potential areas of cooperation, according to the source.

Based on the report from the source, the United States seems to be aiming for a “new chapter” of relation with Eritrea, perhaps the only contemporary African state that fiercely resisted policy interference in its affairs.  The cost of attaining the goal  ( on both sides) is unclear.

What appears to be clear is that the U.S. is thinking in terms of economic partnership with Eritrea if the two countries managed

Eritrea’s Mission at the UN wrote , “This engagement could pave the way for a new chapter in U.S.–Eritrea relations, potentially opening doors for dialogue on trade, investment, infrastructure, transportation, communication and security partnerships, while addressing longstanding concerns in a constructive framework.”

Apart from discussion in the province of rapprochement,  the issue of the Red Sea was discussed. Eritrea is now announcing that it is ready for discussion over it.

“H.E. Osman Saleh underscored #Eritrea’s readiness to engage in meaningful discussions that respect national sovereignty while exploring areas of common interest, particularly in the Horn of Africa, the Nile Basin and the Red Sea,”  Eritrean Mission at the UN wrote on its social media page.

Ethiopia has been pushing for discussion with Eritrea over “access to the sea” issue – something Eritrea has been reject. However, it is unclear if Eritrea’s readiness for discussion is with Ethiopia or not.

The Horn of Africa region has been experiencing tension over the past two years initially between Ethiopia and Somali. When these nations ironed it out with mediation from Turkey, a new tension emerged involving Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Rudiments of the differences started to surface between Eritrea and Ethiopia following the Pretoria Agreement that ended the two years bloody conflict between TPLF and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration.

The tension reached a breaking point over the past few months and both sides have been undertaking military preparations for what is still appearing rather an inevitable conflict. And it has something to do with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration asserting rights over the Port of Assab although he framed it as an “access to the sea” agenda.

The Trump Administration seems to be working to avert the conflict while expressing interest in mending the relationship with Eritrea. Notably, Massad Fares Boulos met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa sometime last week. Regional security was one of the issues discussed during their meeting.

  1. The main topic on the agenda during this meeting was to finalize the deal where USA will buy the latest version of TM model tank and SF-Hyper-Sonic multipurpose fighter jet from Eritrea. In the deal they signed last Monday in New York, USA will buy 125 billion in US dollars worth of military fighter jets and tanks. I got the copy of the deal right here in my folder. I’m gonna post the copy on my website for a smidgen fee of $650.00 for each eyeballing.
Btw, I had asked my longtime homeboys Yemane and Al-Toweel Isu what the prefix letters TM and SF stand for. What they told me is so ingenious. TM stands to tell the Eritrean made tank excels both the latest Russian T-model and the latest US M1 Abrams tanks by 2 millenniums. The SF tells the Eritrean invented fighter jest is centuries ahead of the latest models of both Russia’s SU and USA’s F35 fighter jets. Hey Ethiopia! You’re toast, gone and goodbye!!!! Just like my homie Al-Toweel told you a million times, you are a product of a myth and a distorted country with distorted people anyway. You are not worth around!!!

They also inked the deal where the US will allow Eritrea to export its No.1 ranked electric car in the world to the US market tariff free for the next 20 years.

Oops, almost forgot about this one. The other issue they discussed was about the money owed to Eritrea by Ethiopia. Ethiopia has been on the hook with 250 billion in US dollars it owes Eritrea for invading Eritrea at Keren in 1941 and at Asmara in 1952 and 1962 where more than 15 million Eritreans were killed and more than 25,000(twenty five thousand) fully functioning factories, schools, healthcare facilities, rail road and highway networks were destroyed. Hey Ethiopia! Forget about sea outlet. First, pay off your outstanding and past due debt and then you can daydream about the Red Sea.

  2. This shows my longtime homeboy Al-Toweel Isu is the only one who holds the keys for all issues smoldering the entire Nile basin and the entire Red Sea shores. If given the green light he can bring el-Sisi and Abiy to a round negotiating table in a jiffy and you will see them coming out of the room laughing, giggling and holding hands as best friends for ever(you young folks call that BFF). Then the GERD dam will be a moot point after that for ever. Best friends forever, moot point for ever. You can’t beat that. What is it out there my homie Al-Toweel Isu can not do? Nothing, right? He is a diamond in the rough that has been overlooked by every member of the UN including those superpower island nations in the Pacific Ocean. I just decided to start campaigning for my homeboy Isu as the next Nobel Peace Prize winner and you will see me picketing in front of their office in Oslo starting tomorrow. You dig?.
