Toronto – Eritrea’s Minister for Information, Yemane Gebremeskel, released another statement, on Thursday, on his social media page, in connection with the recent development in Ethiopia and speculations of war between the two countries. There have been calls, including from figures like Let. General Tsadkan Gebretensae, for international intervention to avert war.
Yemane seems to dismiss the possibility of war. He emphasized Eritrea’s commitment for peace on condition of respect for “fundamental pillars of international law and the interests of regional stability. “
Also, he asserted that the call for “external intervention” which he linked to what he described as “Conflict Enterpreneurs” lacks “objectivity.” He sees “unhealthy motives and underlying agendas,” in it.
He addressed some allegations regarding Eritrea including the presence of its troops in Ethiopia. ” The often repeated accusations of Eritrean troop presence in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia” by certain circles is utterly false and floated to create a pretext for stoking conflict. Eritrea’s troops were and remain fully deployed within its sovereign territories,” he wrote.
Regarding the accusation that Eritrea is against the Pretoria Agreement, he reiterated that Eritrea has no interest as it is “an internal Ethiopian affair.”
Eritrea has also been linked to the way the Debretsion Gebremichael led faction of the TPLF acted in Tigray including the removal of the Interim Administration. It has denied it. Yemane wrote, “Eritrea has no interest to exacerbate internal schisms within the political factions of the TPLF which it believes can only entail unnecessary and avoidable suffering to the people of Tigray.”
Yemane Gebremeskel also made a reference to “territorial irredentism” as a problem in the entire Horn of Africa region. He accused “various political forces” in that regard as it relates to the Red Sea. He wrote, “Constant inflammatory statements issued day-in and day-out by various political forces in Ethiopia regarding the Red Sea continue to be a recipe for unnecessary tension. This must be condemned in the strongest terms without any equivocation.”
Key politicians in Tigray who seem to be opposed to the Debretsion faction of the TPLF have been making allegations that Eritrea is involved in plotting against the Interim Administration in Tigray.

Here he is again. My main man, my hommie Abruzzi. Tell’em holmes! Tell these 35 IQ Africans. They don’t listen and they better listen to you and Wedi Afo. If they don’t, just go in there and kick their asses of those clueless Amharas and Oromos just like you did in 1896 at Adwa and in 1998-2000. They need to meet their master in the field one more time. I hate that thing called Ethiopia with a passion just like you and Wedi Afo.
